SCPOR traineeship award -$10,000 for one year to support trainees undertaking patient-oriented research.
Dr. Christine Patterson- Exploring the Impact of COVID-19 Visitor Restrictions on Care in Canadian ICUs I'm a general member of the (awesome and very supportive) research team. In terms of project structure Dr Sabira Valiani is the PI, Dr. Jen O'Brien and Dr. Joann Kawchuk are co-investigators, Dr. Palmer-Clarke is helping with methodology, Faith Bae (RN) is our research assistant, we have two patient partners, and an undergraduate student also helping out.
Thus far, I've contributed to interview development, ethics submission and revisions, and development of recruitment strategies. My ongoing roles include participating in interview debriefing and data analysis, and later in the project I'll be working with our patient and family partners on targeting appropriate knowledge translation strategies.
Dr. Anne-Marie Friesen- Cardiac Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Protocol Outcomes in Saskatchewan
I’m a member of the research team undertaking implementing Cardiac Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Protocol in Saskatchewan. This large-scale implementation study is ongoing because of the hard work of many moving parts. This research team is led by Dr. Michelle Clunie, the principal investigator, Dr. Ryan Pikaluk, from Regina as co-investigator, alongside Dr. Sabira Valiani, Dr. Jennifer O’Brien, Dr. Erin Barbour-Tuck, Kathy Campbell, our department's quality improvement nurse, Dr. Mary Ellen Walker our statistician, and Eileen Reimche, our patient partner.
Thus far, I have contributed the ethics approval and development of a research question. I am currently working on developing the methods of our project. One of the outcomes that we are assessing is Family and Patient engagement. Our patient partners will be essential in measuring this outcome. All cardiac ERAS patients will be invited to share their experience through a questionnaire (that was drafted in collaboration with our patient partner) in order to asses this outcome. Our patient partners (we hope to get a second one) hold a pivotal role in measuring this clinical outcome. The knowledge of their experience, the challenges, the access, and their outcomes after going through the cardiac ERAS pathway will help guide our future interventions.
