I was just in Washington DC last week. My daughter will be graduating from college this spring and moving down there for a summer internship, so we were checking out housing and getting the lay of the land. (Gack, TRAFFIC!) While we were there, we took a side trip to Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. Besides marveling at the beauty of the architecture and the setting, we viewed some very cool antique maps and relics from Lewis and Clark's expedition.
My magical middle-grade fantasy, The Quill Pen, takes place about the same time as Jefferson's presidency, when a sense of adventure and expansion was gripping the nation. Micah Randall shares that restlessness. Unfortunately, he's stuck in New England, the reluctant heir of his father's businesses...until he discovers a pen that writes the future. It's the perfect opportunity to dictate his own path! Except each use of magic comes with dire consequences.
The Quill Pen received a Readers Favorite 5 Star Seal of approval and was reader-nominated for the 2014 Indie Recon Best Novel Award. If you someone you know enjoys magical adventures, grab this one up. It's widely available and priced at only 3.99.
