Top Writing Tips!
When you start to think about writing a social media post, recruiting letter, flyer or a Press Release, it can be overwhelming. But you don't have to be a published author to write effective copy. Here are some writing tips to keep in mind:
How will joining Scouting Impact the Reader's Life – Families want to know, what's the benefit of joining? What will they get out of it? For example; Scouting improves confidence and leadership skills. Scouting provides the "village" families are searching for, adventures they normally wouldn't try, not to mention, fellowship and fun!
- Encourage the Reader to Take Action – Point the reader to where they can find more information.
- Invite your audience to witness the next meeting to “see for themselves”
- Direct the viewer to click on your website or to email you for more information
- Post a link to your BeAScout.org Pin for families to request information or register online.
- How Scouting Improves Core Motive - Helps us live, grow and develop:
Scouting…
- Improves health
- Teaches Lifelong Skills
- Provides Leadership Opportunities
- Offers ways to help and improve our community
- Create "Memorable Moments" - Share videos, pictures, montages on Social Media and on your Unit's website that make your reader/viewer feel an emotion. Happy, proud, patriotic, motivated, etc.
- Be concise. You don't have to write a lot to be effective. Don't get wrapped up in thinking you need a long, elaborate press release. Sometimes short and sweet gets the most attention, if it's written well!
