WorkSafeNB is proud to present the Safety Star Awards, an annual initiative that recognizes and honours individuals and organizations who are helping make New Brunswick the safest place to work. Safety leadership exists across our province, and these awards provide an opportunity to highlight those who make a meaningful difference in workplace health and safety.

Have your say on a proposed new policy

WorkSafeNB is developing a new policy to guide decisions on claims involving “any other disablement”. 

These types of claims can include conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, or injuries that develop over time from repeated strain.

This new policy will:

• Set out a clearer decision-making process for “any other disablement”; and
• Support consistent and transparent decision-making.

Your feedback will help us to ensure the policy is clear, consistent and fair, and that it supports well-informed decisions for workers and employers.

Steps for Life

On May 8, over 200 WorkSafeNB employees, along with their families and four-legged friends, joined the Steps for Life Walk across the province. Together we raised over $5,000 for Threads of Life to support families impacted by workplaces illness, injury or death.

WorkSafeNB proud to sponsor Fabricate Your Future at NBCC Miramichi!

Hosted by the Centre of Excellence for Skilled Trades and Manufacturing, the Fabricate Your Future event brought together hundreds of high school students to learn more about careers in the industry. WorkSafeNB took the opportunity to engage with young people on the importance of safe decisions-making and their right to a safe workplace.

Connecting with educators

On the New Brunswick Teacher’s Association’s Council Day, a professional development day for educators, WorkSafeNB connected with teachers and school staff to promote young worker safety in New Brunswick. At the booth, we shared practical resources and ideas to help educators prepare students for safe and healthy workplaces.

Advertising specific services and/or directly contacting New Brunswick employers with the suggestion they are non-compliant with provincial occupational health and safety laws.

The representatives push unneeded goods and services. These firms may use the WorkSafeNB or Government of New Brunswick logo without permission.

WorkSafeNB reminds New Brunswickers that we have no affiliation with such firms. If a workplace must provide training, a WorkSafeNB officer, with official identification, will visit the workplace and address the issue in person.

Today is Teal Day

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month in New Brunswick, a time to raise awareness about the impact of sexual violence and to strengthen how we support survivors in our communities.

This year’s theme, Support is not a single door, highlights that support is available through many services working together. It reflects the importance of collaboration and ensures survivors can access care, information and resources in ways that feel right for them.

Today, May 29, individuals, organizations and businesses across the province are encouraged to take part in Teal Day. By wearing or displaying teal, New Brunswickers show their support for survivors and their commitment to building safer, more compassionate communities.

At WorkSafeNB, this work connects to our role in preventing workplace violence and harassment by promoting respectful behaviour, identifying risks and supporting safe work environments as part of our vision of making New Brunswick the safest place to work.

Together, we can challenge harmful narratives, support survivors with dignity and respect and contribute to a culture where everyone feels safe and supported.

In the courts

WorkSafeNB's health and safety officers and occupational hygienists are given legislative authority to write orders under the OHS Act, to improve safety and prevent workplace injuries in New Brunswick.

When these orders are not complied with, or when an incident has taken place as a result of a violation of the Act and/or its regulations, WorkSafeNB may recommend charges to the Department of Justice.
