Our May issue is out next week!
Our May issue discovers the Beastly side of Bath with the help of Martin Brown, Horrible Histories illustrator, who tells us all about the underbelly of Bath’s history, from secret spells scratched onto amulets by Adelard to Mary Shelley’s monstrous Frankenstein creation, in the new Horrible Histories: Bath book.
There’s also an interview with the Reverend Richard Coles who has had an amazingly eclectic life and relates his life stages from runaway to pop star and reverend to writer - he is coming to the Bath Literature Festival to talk about his latest written oeuvre.
Another wordsmith en route to the Festival is lexicographer Susie Dent, who has written a linguistic mystery book, which hinges around the puzzles contained in letters sent to a dictionary office.
We also meet the dynamic co-founders of the Canned Wine Group who have shown that great wine doesn’t have to come in a bottle and showcase a vision of the plans for the soon-to-be renovated Bath Assembly Rooms.
It’s also Bath Restaurant Week from 3-11 May – and we’ve given you a sampling of the special offers during the week that will give you and your own a good excuse to eat, drink and be sociable!
And if you would like to have a copy of The Bath Magazine sent in the post every month, then we offer a postal subscription for just £35 for 12 issues, £20 for six issues or buy a copy for just £4.95. UK mainland prices. For Euro and World zone subscription prices – click here to subscribe on our website.

Weekend Wines: Discover Argentina
With its vast and varied topography, Argentinian wine offers a wealth of different grapes and techniques that produce a huge range of flavours and textures. Here we've picked a few of our favourites, all available at The Great Wine Co, perfect for oenophiles and first-timers alike...
1. Signature White Blend from Susana Balbo, £22
This lovely wine is a Bordeaux blend with an Argentine twist. The expected Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are combined with masterfully-crafted Torrontés
Floral and citrus notes combine with hints of fresh grass, white peach and orange.
2. Estacion 1883 Bonarda by Trapiche, £13.30
This full-bodied Bonarda from Mendoza offers great aromas of ripe plums, blackberries, spice and liquorice. It's succulent and rich on the palate, with bags of fruit and a juicy and ever so slightly spicy finish.
3. Maria Victoria Malbec by Bodegas Verum, £19.50
A Malbec with great elegance and class. With serious concentration of black fruit and liquorice on the nose and good structure in the mouth, it has excellent acidity that gives it a unique freshness.
4. Unánime by La Mascota, £22
Black cherry fruit on the nose, with cocoa powder, currant leaf and malt extract. Lovely texture on the palate: ripe, unashamedly New World fruit married to crisp acidity and defined but gentle tannin.
5. Old Vine Riesling by Humberto Canale, £19.50
Riesling from the far south of South America, all steel and citrus, but with a slice or two of white peach rounding things out.
