NEW RESEARCH

Sanjaya Mahato was awarded a PhD degree from the Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR), Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw in April 2019. His dissertation, ‘Ethnicity, Political Parties and Voter’s Alignments: A Case Study of the Democratic Elections of Nepal after 1990’, tries to answer whether political party or ethnicity, or both, influence voters’ alignments in Nepal. The research indicates that ethnic movements after the 1990s have led to the institutionalisation of ethnic issues in mainstream politics and increased ethnic politics, changing the candidacy patterns among the major political parties of Nepal.
