Hey ,

I've always loved finding a book with a beautiful cover and then finding out how the cover fits in with the story. Both of today's science fiction stories have awesome visuals, which I've included in today's email because life's too short to have to click over to see them!

Omnilingual

Are you familiar with Project Gutenberg? They offer open source, out-of-copyright texts that anyone can use as long as the project is credited. I've spent a lot of time reading books from Gutenberg, and wanted to pay it forward to you readers, so I'm choosing a handful of illustrated sci-fi stories and republishing them on my blog for anyone to read.

The first is "Omnilingual" by H. Beam Piper. Originally published in the February 1957 issue of Astounding Science Fiction, it's an absolute gem and one of the earliest xenoarchaeology sci-fi stories I've been able to get my hands on. Is it the first? I'm still looking for stories about aliens and archaeology that were written earlier...

Sigma Protocol

The other story for today is the first episode in a space opera serial by Michael Penmore called Sigma Protocol.

A failing starship. A killer on the loose. A woman without memory. Can she escape with her life - and answers?

A quick and fast-paced read for less than the price of your morning coffee.

2018 Book of the Week archives

Finally, I just wanted to let everyone know that the 2018 Book of the Week archives have been put onto their own archive page, here. Feel free to share it with friends or bookmark it to return later if you find it useful. I wrote a short letter at the top of the page about how this Book of the Week campaign got started, and why I love reading widely and sharing good books with you. We just passed the 1 year anniversary of its inception, and I'll be carrying on the tradition through 2019.

Hope you find something here each week (or at least every few weeks) to enjoy!
