With the UK basking in summer sunshine, it seems like a good time to catch up on Vitamin D. As advocates of functional medicine and functional blood testing, we're all chronically aware of the importance of Vitamin D in the body. As ever though, whether we're in the depths of winter or the height of summer, it remains a hot topic.
The reason is, of course, that vitamin D doesn't (mostly at least) come from the food we eat but from being synthesised in the skin after exposure to UV rays.
You can read more about the mechanisms of vitamin D in our two-part blog series from last year (see below), but recently, there's been a spate of new research into the 'sunshine vitamin'. Given we know you're a busy practitioner, we thought it might be helpful if we did a trawl of PubMed and produced a summary of the new research for you.
