Improving safety on Ferndale Road

Construction work on three corners of the junction between Ferndale Road, Whitehouse Road and St Mary's Grove to create a four-way pedestrian crossing, has been completed and we are now working on the fourth corner. While this work is going on, pavement closures and four-way temporary traffic lights will remain in place to keep the public and workforce safe.

Once the pavement construction has been completed on the final corner, new traffic lights will be installed and road markings will be re-laid.

Once the work is complete, the crossroads should have a positive improvement in safety for pedestrians and motorists.

Upgrading Mannington Roundabout

A temporary 30mph speed limit along Great Western Way (towards Junction 16 of the M4) and narrowed lanes either side of Mannington Retail Park have been implemented to make a safe working environment for the contractor.

The Gas, Water and Electricity companies are now finalising utility diversions and are preparing the site for the construction of a new exit slip road from Mannington Retail Park onto Great Western Way.

Once the work is complete, drivers will be able to leave the retail park via Great Western Way, reducing traffic on the roundabout.

Reconstructing Watchfield Road

We have been working to reconstruct sections of the B4508 Watchfield Road. The road was resurfaced and lined from the junction with the B4000 Highworth Road to the Borough boundary with Oxfordshire. Additional work has been undertaken to improve the drainage along the verge. This major reconstruction has added approximately 30 years of life to the road.
