Here's three key points to consider when curating an art collection.
1. You don't need a lot of original art to create a collection.
You can create a beautiful collection from just one piece of original art by using printing. With this method, you can also cover point #3 of hitting a variety of price points. By starting with a beautiful original work, you can add paper prints, canvas prints, and even products like coffee mugs and notebooks.
2. Collections can be curated in a variety of ways
Collections can be grouped by subject, product or a single work. For example, with a subject collection, you could have a collection of abstract trees that consisted of 5-10 original paintings and then add prints of each. For a product collection you could take 4 of your most popular floral paintings and create a collection of coffee mugs. You can even start with one painting and create a collection around that single piece of art by adding a variety of prints and products that hit a range of price points (#3).
3. Consider price points
Remember that not everyone is in the market for an original work of art, but if you have a range of products and different price points, you can create more opportunity for the customer to buy and possibly create a fan that will purchase original art later! Set your original work as the highest price point, giclee prints next, paper prints and then a few products as your least expensive items.
