CNY Falls on Saturday - Update 1

Dear HR Practitioners,

If Public Holiday falls on Saturday, our company give 1 replacement off day to all staff. However, the upcoming Chinese New Year fall on Saturday and Sunday, Monday is a gazetted public holiday. So do we still need to provide off day to staff on Tuesday as the replacement for PH falls on Saturday?

Appreciate your kind opinion.

Thanks.

For Saturday we practice in giving one day additional public in lieu. This could be used on Tuesday if your company prefer that or giving the staff the flexibility to use it on other days. For us we use it on CNY eve.

We grant 1 day off in lieu of PH on Sat.

As per our company policy, we will give 1 day of in lieu to all employees for the PH on Saturday. In this case, Tuesday is NOT a gazetted PH in Singapore and the trading market is open and as such, we need to remain open.

Yes. Monday public holiday replaces Sunday. The company still needs to compensate for the Public Holiday on Sat (if Sat is a non-working day for the employee). Some company chose to either compensate one-day's salary or credit them with an additional day's leave to be used the same way as vacation leaves.

We provide replacement holiday on Tuesday because most people would take leave on Tuesday in my Company. But some companies would the staff off-in-lieu for the holidays that fall on Saturday.

You just need to give 1 replacement off day to all staff ant not necessary an off day on Tuesday.

Replacement for Saturday PH is required for Associate who are OFF on the day. We will credit one day OIL to their leave entitlement.

If your company provides replacement off on the following working day for PH falling on a Saturday, in the case of this year’s Chinese New Year, both Monday and Tuesday will be off days for the employees.

Not for us as we give employee 1 day credit leave for PH falls on Saturday, so Tuesday will be a working day unless they want to utilize the credit leave or their annual leave.

If you already provide 1 off in lieu to the staff, you will not need to provide off day to staff on Tuesday.

It depends on your company’s policy especially if it’s a 5 day week office.

According to MOM it is Yes, if the holiday falls on a rest day, the next working day is a paid holiday. If the holiday falls on a non-working day or off day, the employer may decide to compensate the employee with an extra day’s pay in lieu of that holiday or give the employee another day off as a holiday.

We don't give off day to staff on Tuesday, we give 1 OIL for PH falls on saturday, 28 January. They will apply on the date as they like.
