Black Friday Special - 3 months free: NordVPN🔒
This is Tech-Letter #50!
Minions

Newsletters were always the "next thing" I wanted to try but kept pushing back, so having officially sent 50 editions is a small milestone I'm really excited about.

To celebrate, I'm going to do a small raffle. If you get one person to sign up before next Monday, I'll enter your name in a giveaway where a lucky winner can win a $10 Amazon gift card. Tiny token of appreciation (hopefully to cover up a small % of your black friday shopping). Just share this 1-minute survey that makes it easy to sign up to The Tech-Letter

How many browser tabs do you currently have open?
Tabs on Safari

OG's will remember tech-letter #6, where I briefly covered The Great Suspender, a Google Chrome/Brave browser extension that lets you put unused tabs on "sleep mode" so that they don't keep consuming memory and slowing down your computer.

But one thing we can always be sure of is that tech is always evolving, and new ideas are always being generated. Today's tech-tool makes The Great Suspender look like something from the past (though... technically... that is actually true).

Tabbs 💻
Open tabs on Google Chrome

Having a ton of tabs open is singlehandedly the reason why my laptop is constantly slow and the battery lasts way less than it should. This is also annoying when it comes time to find a specific tab, but I'm drowning in a sea of them

The Great Suspender was (is) great to me because it helps me suspend inactive tabs. I still recommend this if you're on a browser like Safari. But for Google Chrome and Brave users, your browser usage is about to dynamically change.

Think of Tabbs like your tab assistant. It's a browser extension that lets you navigate through a multitude of tabs, seamlessly. You can scroll through your list or even manually search for tabs using your keyboard.

Filtering through tabs using Tabbs

The image above provides an example with a few open tabs (8). And just like that, we have covered the first feature of Tabbs-- filtering through the open ones.

Not only does the search option allow you to find tabs with titles that match that of your search-term, but in many cases it will also search for that search-term within your open tabs.

For example, I searched for the term "Smoothie", and not only did it show me the website "choosemysmoothie.com", but it also brought up "rakhyani.com", where I've written about the smoothie website. Check out the image below.

Being able to filter through all open tabs, also comes with individual options to alter settings for them. But before I get into those, here's what you must know: shortcuts are everything.

Launching Tabbs is as easy as hitting CMD + K (Mac), or Alt + K (Windows). Using shortcuts detailed on their website, you are able to navigate through the list, mute/unmute audio of individual tabs, pin tabs to the top, close tabs, and open tabs.

P.S. in the same way The Great Suspender would let you suspend tabs, Tabbs does that for you too. Automatically. Just set the timer to whatever number you'd like.

There are more shortcuts that I won't go through, so hopefully you're super excited by now. All of this, without ever using your mouse/trackpad.

And that's that! Tabbs is free to use, as extensions for Chrome and Brave. Other than that, thanks for being a part of The Tech-Letter. I hope this is as fun for you as it is for me. Very excited for you to participate in that giveaway!

Black Friday Special: NordVPN 🔒
NordVPN

*deal* *Deal* *DEAL*

Here's what's up. NordVPN's Black Friday deal includes 3 free months with your purchase. This is all you need to know. Buy 2 years (currently at a 68% discount, which is what I bought), get 3 months free.

Just in case you're wondering what NordVPN is, it's a VPN service that does the following:

  • Lets you access streaming service content from other countries. Do you live in Brazil but want to watch the US version of Netflix? Now you can.
  • Keeps your data safe. Do you do mobile banking? Pay bills online? Send sensitive material? Use the Internet? All your information is just out there. VPNs help you protect your data.

NordVPN is based in Panama, where they are not legally required to log your data (which other VPNs do, which is not good). If there was ever a time to protect yourself online, it's now. P.S. This offer ends in like a week or two, tops.
