The sculptured shoulders drew attention to her beautiful face. The mini length highlighted her gorgeous gams and the ruched bodice was a perfect touch!
Not everyone can carry off silver lamé, but Lizzo went for it!
I know there are plenty of haters who thought she looked ridiculous. Many of whom I bet are from my generation (X) or older …as we were brought up to believe that thin, young and white is the only way to look beautiful.
These stories were ingrained in our brains decades ago so seeing someone like Lizzo embrace her individuality with confidence often triggers our own insecurities and self-doubt, leading us to judge and ridicule them.
But this only perpetuates the unrealistic beauty standards, making it even harder for us to break free from these limiting beliefs.
It’s a tough situation where we find ourselves both the victim and perpetrator of the circumstances. We worry about how we look WHILE judging others saying “who does she think she is?!?”
One solution is to begin cultivating a more compassionate relationship with ourselves. If you can look at yourself with more kindness then perhaps you can see others through those same eyes.
Then when you notice you’re judging someone, turn the focus inward and ask "where am I feeling unkind towards myself right now?"
Also, know that other people are probably dealing with the same thing. So if you’re concerned about their opinion on your appearance…it’s really just their own sh!t they’re ridiculing.
I know it’s deep stuff. And probably not what you expected wrapped up in a silver lamé dress!
But women come to me because they’re unhappy with their styles, and they believe the clothing is the problem. But really it’s their self image holding them back.
It takes a certain confidence to wear what you want and many women lack that confidence because they've been told for so long what they should look like.
If you're not feeling good about your style, it means you’re still figuring out how to fully embrace your true self. So seeing someone like Lizzo who owns her fashion can be an inspiration as she shows how it's done.
