For 2021
Just One Request
Dear Master for this coming year Just one request I bring: I do not pray for happiness, Or any earthly thing— I do not ask to understand The way Thou leadest me, But this I ask: Teach me to do The thing that pleaseth Thee. I want to know Thy guiding voice, To walk with Thee each day. Dear Master make me swift to hear And ready to obey. And thus the year I now begin A happy year will be— If I am seeking just to do The thing that pleaseth Thee.

Words of Appreciation
The HPGMBC New Year's Eve Watch Zoom Service will be long remembered by all who participated. We are appreciative to Rev. Leo Fain for presiding and Rev. Herbert T. Owen, Jr. for delivery an inspiring and encouraging New Year's Eve message. We said so long to the year 2020 and ushered in the new year 2021. Only by God's Grace are we allowed to see the start of a new day or a new year. Life is a Gift from God and Eternal Life is a Gift that God gives to those who accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord.
To God Be the Glory for the Great Things He Has Done!

8,739 New COVID-19 Cases & 75 Deaths Reported in Kentucky from December 31, 2020 through January 2, 2021
(688 New Cases in Fayette County)
Even with the availability of the long awaited COVID-19 vaccines, it is still important and necessary to continue to practice the CDC and Kentucky Governor's Guidance and Mandates. The distribution and administration of the vaccines to millions of people is a monumental task and will take time. Meanwhile we must stay steadfast, vigilant and disciplined in the adherence of safe practices as provided by the CDC and the Kentucky Governor's Health advice in light of the continued spread of the virus. Click CDC VACCINE INFORMATION for some information from the CDC on the COVID-19 vaccines.
- Get a flu vaccination as soon as possible but getting it any time in the flu season is beneficial. VaccineFinderexternal icon to find out where to get vaccinated near you.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick, maintain at least 6 feet from others who are not from your household,
- Wear face masks when in public (Mandatory in Kentucky and is being extended on a 30 day basis until the spread is under control),
- Wash your hands frequently,
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and leave home only when absolutely necessary.

Today's Bible Study Lesson
"Called to Proclaim"
Aim: Comprehend the meaning and significance of Jesus’ inaugural sermon in Nazareth, Sense the impact of Jesus pronouncement at Nazareth, and Align our faith response with Jesus’ call and mission.
Background: Luke 4
Bible Lesson: Luke 4:14-22
Memory Verse:
“The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19 KJV
Some Bible Lesson Highlights:
- Luke Chapter 4, opens with Jesus being led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness after being baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. Jesus is in wilderness for 40 days and is tempted by the devil. (Asked to turn stone to bread; to bow down to the devil; and to tempt God Himself.) On each occasion, Jesus answers with Scripture and Jesus never yielded to the devil’s temptations. After this season of temptation, angels ministered to Jesus physical needs.
- Next the Holy Spirit leads Jesus to the region of Galilee and at 30 years of age He begins His earthly ministry. He regularly taught in Synagogues, which were Jewish worship centers located within communities. We might compare these worship centers to modern day Churches, our houses of worship. His ministry was well received and many came to listen and were amazed at His teaching.
- Jesus next stop was the village of Nazareth, his hometown. The typical order of worship in the Synagogue, was a reciting of the Shema ( Deuteronomy 6:4-9), prayers, Scripture reading of the Law and the Prophets (Remember the New Testatment was not yet available), a sermon and a benediction. As was customary from His childhood, Jesus went to the Synagogue on the Sabbath. He was selected to read the Scriptures and He was handed the scroll of Isaiah the Prophet. Jesus unrolled the scroll to the passage found in Isaiah 61:1-2 and read after which he returned the scroll to the attendant.
- With all eyes fixed on Jesus after reading this passage, Jesus states that “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day.”
- In plain language, Jesus declares that is the Messiah, the Anointed One. He has come to usher in a new era, one of Good News to the poor, both materially and spiritually. He is to release the captives, those bound in physical prisons and bound in sin. He is to give sight to the physically blind and the spiritually blind. He is to bring freedom to the oppressed either by external circumstances or mental circumstances. Finally, He is bringing in a type of Jubilee (Leviticus 25:8-17), a time of new beginnings and opportunity to start again with debts forgiven, servitude ended, and ancestoral land returned. Spiritually, it is an opportunity to through faith in Jesus Christ to loose the bonds of sin and allow one to live a righteous life with the help of the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ ministry was one of healing and of restoration.
- The first response to Jesus’ pronouncement was amazement and wonder, but quickly skepticism came as their carnal minds processed His words and the question arose “How can this be? Is not this Joseph the carpenter’s son?” (Similar, to Nathnael’s question, “Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?” John 1:46). The skepticism turn to wrath and a riotious mob ran Jesus out of town and desired to cast Him over a cliff to His death. (Luke 4:29-30) But Jesus left them unharmed and continued His earthly ministry.
Take Aways:
- We too must listen to the voice of the Lord, through the Bible, God’s Voice in Print, and to sermons given by God to ministers to share with us the Gospel of Jesus Christ and then we must intentionally strive to live worthy of our calling as Christians.
- We must in faith and with prayer, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who are unsaved.
- We must be stedfast and unmovable in our faith in Jesus Christ and in His Promises to carry us through no matter the circumstances we face.
Bible Verses to Keep in Mind::
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36 KJV
But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6 KJV
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
