Hi Presidio Family!

I can’t believe March is almost over, but I feel like I say that every month! We have had some really amazing things happen this month, so I would like to take this opportunity to share some happy news.

Donors Choose is a program designed to empower public school teachers to request supplies, materials, etc. for their students. Donors from across the country and world can view the proposed projects and bring them to life with monetary gifts of any amount. So far, we have had a few teachers submit proposals and receive generous tax-deductible donations. Please check out the project proposals and share with your family and friends.

Ms. Leal-Holmes’ project proposal has already been funded! She asked for supplies for middle and high school science.

Ms. Horn’s project proposal has also been fully funded. She requested funding for math manipulatives and flip charts to assist with making math meaningful and fun.

We still have some project proposals that have yet to be funded and would greatly appreciate you sharing the information with your family and friends…

New Check-In Procedure for Late Students

Beginning March 21, 2022, Presidio implemented a new check in/check out procedure for all students arriving late or leaving early. All students will now need to check in/check out via a computer in the front office of the 1695 campus. Parents of students in grades K-3 will need to come inside to sign their student(s) in, after sign in the student(s) will be taken to the 1615 campus by Presidio staff. Students in grades 4-12 will be able to sign themselves in without a parent present. If a K-3 student has an older (grade 4-12) sibling, they can be checked in by their sibling instead of a parent. Parents will also need to sign their students out via the same computer if picking their student(s) up early from school. Please let us know if you have any questions about this new procedure.

It is time for us to embrace our love of reading! The Scholastic Book Fair is making a stop at our school from April 11-13! The Book Fair will be open before school starts, from 7:15-7:45 am, and after school ends, from 2:45-3:45 pm. Students are encouraged to come and browse the selection of books! More information will be shared through social media soon, so please be on the lookout for it!

While the final project was a virtual presentation and students were given class time to complete, the experiments and experimental data were collected and completed by students outside the classroom. Thank you to the middle school team and Mrs. Cahoon, Mr. Garcia, and Ms.Bogle, who helped score students' projects.

Congratulations to Sajjad Al-Sinayyid who won 3rd Place at SARSEF, receiving an award, certificate, and a check at the celebration at Reid Park on March 5, 2022.

In our Third Grade reading class, it is all about chocolate! Students will be reviewing the skills they have learned so far this year by completing a deep dive novel study of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", by Roald Dahl. We will be reading the book in class together, and there are many fun activities to complete. Students will practice inference, compare and contrast, character traits, settings, plot, theme, and how actions by one character can affect the whole story. They will be reviewing and practicing how to find evidence within a text, and how to connect supporting details to a main idea. We will also be completing a lap book to help students understand the novel in a visual way, as well as complete an escape room to test their comprehension knowledge of what they have read. By April 8th, students will have a deeper understanding of fictional texts, all while participating in discussions, completing assignments, and collaborating on fun projects!

Our 4th grade classrooms have transformed into the land of boxes, paper plates, and paint, oh my! We are building mountain, plateau, and coastal cliff landforms that we will add rocks and soil to. After we add rocks and soil, we will use water to observe how weathering and erosion occur. Check out some of our landforms in progress below. 4th grade ROCKS! ;)

Although we've been collecting materials all year, we are asking that if anyone has scrap newspapers, magazines, beat up chapter books that are going to be tossed, or pretty much anything to recycle and use in a collage, to please drop it off for students to have a variety to use in their projects.

Mrs. Penazek is requesting donations of any of the following items for the dance program.

Dance is in need of many pairs in all sizes of tan pants. Tan joggers with elastic bottoms or straight legged - any at all. Stretch waist or fitted. Stained, with holes is fine too! Also needed are any extra bolts of fabrics, spools of elastic, ribbons, sequins, threads, or lace. If you are spring cleaning, think of Dance and please donate things to us. We appreciate it in advance.
