Keeping people safe led to flexibility in this year's SepTimber Ride, and to a very successful event. Above are the items that all Ride participants got in their Thank You Packages.
Friends of the River Trail,
Life did not go as normal this summer, as you well know. But GHT was able to get some important things done. We wanted you to know about all of them. We also need more people to get more done, and we hope you'll consider helping.

SepTimber Ride 2020was certainly different from past Rides. For health and safety reasons, social distancing was necessary. So the brat celebration and other gathering activities couldn't take place. Riders could also pick any day to ride one of the regular routes or ride any route in their locality. The flexibility turned out to be a good thing because the official Ride day, September 12th, was cold and rainy up here. Even so, about a dozen riders braved the weather that day. A bountiful thank you packet was sent to all participants. It contained the event t-shirt and coupons for beer samples and the special souvenir tasting glass from Tribute Brewing Co., a discount on wine from the Three Lakes Winery, a free small cone from Dairy Queen, and a 35% off coupon from Hiker Box! Overall 176 participants registered for the event, raising important funds to benefit future trail development. Next year's Ride will be on September 11 and you're invited!

The Conover-Phelps Trail- GHT is close to completing this trail for the two towns. This summer, donors near and far contributed over $215,000 to top off the funding needed to get the last 1.9 miles built. Logging to clear the trail corridor will happen this winter, and trail construction will follow next summer. More information is available and donations are still being accepted at GHT's website.

The River Trail- Laying the groundwork for this important trail is going extremely well. The trail will connect the Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail to Eagle River. Under the direction of the River Trail Commission, GHT is currently working on trail routing and has staked a potential centerline of the trail in several locations on the north side of STH 70 just west of Eagle River.
Working with the Town of Lincoln - We need to develop a better working relationship with the Town of Lincoln. It's the one town on the route of the River Trail that is not represented on the Commission. If you're interested in helping, particularly if you are a Lincoln property owner, please contact us at

Thanks for your interest in GHT and the River Trail. We'll be sending these periodic emails to keep you updated on our progress. Please, feel free to contact us any time at
