Internationally renowned colour pencil artist SharonSS Kow has been creating and producing coloured pencil artworks since 2013. Her style of art gravitates towards Realism where she pays utmost attention to details, values and nuances. She uses common, ordinary subjects to metaphorically create a visual understanding of logic and emotions that are integrated into the fabric of human lives. Working with colour pencils is a slow, tedious process that requires a lot of patience. Learn more about her approach, free of charge, on Facebook live here.

Upon gaining independence in the mid-20th century, many cities in Southeast Asia changed dramatically in terms of their physical appearance. The task of becoming an independent nation was accompanied by the desire for a symbolic new beginning in architecture and urban planning. Today rapid urbanisation is causing iconic structures to be razed or disfigured. The symposium will discuss examples such as the Getty Institute’s Keeping it Modern programme, the model project at Haus der Statistik in Berlin, new approaches in Singapore to evaluating buildings beyond mere aesthetics, and the renovation of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
