The report's summary? We're running out of time. We need big change, fast.
Terms such as "code red", "crisis point" and "wake-up call" have been used the the report. The findings of the IPCC report are staggering. The climate crisis that we are in is unequivocally caused by human activities, is affecting every corner, mountain, hill, lake, river and town of the planet, and is growing in severity.
Here's how our friends at POW UK summed things up: The world's leading scientists couldn't be any clearer; we must see Global governments mobilise and implement climate action policies that reflect the serious and dangerous situation that we're in. Anything else doesn’t make economic, diplomatic, or environmental sense.
Aotearoa must lead by example and influence the global picture. This includes showing leadership and abandoning projects such as coal mines, highways dairy expansion which aren't compliant with a 1.5 degree world.
The good news, however, is that we can stop this, we We can stop this. We have solutions, but they must be prioritised with urgency. We, the people and our community, must create that urgency.
There is no room for apathy anymore. So email your MP and let them know that you want to see climate action. Normalise talking about climate change at the climbing wall, trail, mountain, and with your family, friends, and colleagues. Lastly, donate if you can, so that we can purchase digital campaigning tools that will help us turn your concerns into action.
A better world is possible, but we must use our individual influence to create the change we want to see - so join us.
