Working in a public library brings many positive experiences. One of my favorites is connecting with our library visitors and learning their personal stories. We are honored to be a part of many of our neighbors’ lives during the best and worst of times. They come to the library to find stories that fit their moods, to mentally escape from tough times, and to learn more about things they don’t understand. Stories are at the center of our work – those on the shelves and those playing out in front of us every day in the library.
As story lovers, we celebrate and value the broad spectrum of beliefs and perspectives that our diverse community holds. Since September 2012, Aloha Community Library Association employees and volunteers have proudly provided access to a wide variety of materials to ensure everyone in Aloha can choose what they want or need.
This year, to emphasize their commitment to upholding access to all stories, the Aloha Community Library Association Board of Directors joins the Washington County Board of Commissioners and city councils and nonprofit library boards across the county by adopting a Banned Books Week Proclamation. This is a huge show of support for the work we do every single day on behalf of everyone in our community. Thank you to the ACLA Board of Directors! And thanks, as always, to you, Aloha, for sharing your stories with us, and allowing us to be a part of them, too.
See you at the library,
Terri Palmer Library Director
