Reinventing Furniture with Batik and Songket

Batik and Songket, Malaysia’s traditional cultural heritage, have been given a new lease of life as they continue to play a vital role in the daily lives of the society. This includes the reinvention of their applications such as in contemporary or modern furniture. A group of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Design and Architecture (FRSB) in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have designed unique furniture which uses both batik and songket as motifs. Muslim Mother Teresa Draws Close to Needy UPM Students

Sister Sabariah from Malaysia, an icon portrayed as the Muslim Mother Teresa of Montreal, Canada, accompanied 50 UPM needy students in the gotong-royong preparation of special meals at the Majlis Tautan Hati bersama Sister Sabariah. 

The 70-year-old icon is internationally recognised for her charitable acts of feeding the homeless in Montreal, Canada for over 30 years. Read More

UPM Fusion Lab Raises Fund to Help Develop the Potential of Pupils with Special Needs

For the very first time, UPM’s Special Education Laboratory (Fusion lab) organised a Charity Dinner for Pupils with Special Needs (MBK), especially for those with intellectual disabilities. UPM Athletes Awarded the Most Prestigious National Sports Awards 2017

The National Sports Award 2017 witnessed athletes from UPM being honoured in the country’s most prestigious sports awards. 

Cheong Jun Hoong, a Bachelor of Communication student from the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, was named the National Sportswoman.

She received a championship trophy, an accompanying trophy, a certificate and RM20,000 in prize money. Read More
