Welcome to the first newsletter of 2020, a new year, a new decade. Sadly, not a good start to the year, as LCH founder Sam relates in this message....

"As you are aware, just before Christmas, we were nearly wiped out financially because of some pet owners (and their vets) .... we have (with your help) clawed our way back into the black. But you may also be aware that there are no new animals on our Facebook pages and website. Our doors are closed at the moment until we are more financially stable. THIS does not mean we are all taking a break, in fact today being the 10th January, is the day that we have moved yet another unwanted Cornish dog into the safety of another trusted rescue that we work with. The dog in question will have all her health issues dealt with, spay and vaccinated prior to looking for a new home. This is dog number 6, this year, including 2 xmas puppies. 6 dogs, in 10 days ... it has been tough not being able to take them under our umbrella, but until we are safe financially, then we need to remain a responsible rescue. It is so sad when it boils down to finances, but needs must. We will be getting our fundraising caps on soon, if anyone wants to jump on board to help, (not just with ideas, but physical help) you will be more than welcome..."

New Arrivals

Bailey

All dogs have needs, but some require extra special care and a very special someone to give that care. Bailey suffered a spinal injury, and with correct rehabilitation he is showing good improvement. This rehab will be ongoing.
On New Year's Day Bailey took his very first steps without the help of his wheelchair, which made all involved cry happy tears.....

Due to the nature of the ongoing treatment and care required, Bailey's current family are unable to continue with his care and so we have been asked to find a more suitable home. This handsome boy will require someone who is home most of the time that is able to offer a lot of love and understanding for his condition.
For now and the near future Bailey requires the use of a wheels but this does not put him off living life to the full. Bailey is just 4 years old, and loves people, children, and other dogs, - a very happy little soul with that trademark Staffie smile!

If you would like to offer Bailey a home, please contact the team on 01209 281159 or email info@lastchancehotel.org

You can find more information on our other dogs by visiting our website pages: for foster or for adoption. Also our Facebook page.

Waggy Tail Endings

Jayden and Nola are a bonded pair who ended up in the pound after their owner died. They had been in the stray kennels for months whilst things were sorted out, not the best place for 8 year old pooches. LCH stepped in to bring them down to Cornwall the second week of December, and they went into a foster home as applications to adopt them came in. Having seen this photo, Jane from Plymouth thought that these two would make ideal companions for her other two border collies, after losing her dear older boy in the Spring.

Following a very good 'Meet and Greet', these two are now happily ensconced with their new family and enjoying the love and luxuries of a proper home again. A wonderful start to the New Year for Jayden and Nola!

Dear Walter.... he touched so many hearts with his sad story of neglect and indifference by his previous owners. A very nervous boy, he too ended up in the pound, his humans were contacted but did not want him back. Now he has nothing but the best from his new family, and is spoilt rotten.... Walter has certainly landed on all four paws with Cathy, and now knows what the word 'love' means...

Fundraisers

Personal fundraising comes in a variety of forms, and plays a vital part in rescue. From youngsters to ‘old hands’, we are so grateful for your contributions, and hope that along the way, you and others enjoy taking part.

Shoeboxes!!

Grateful thanks to everyone who so kindly took the time to put these extra special presents together, we were completely overwhelmed by your generosity! These pics were taken at the LCH Christmas Fun Dog Show on the 15th December, and don’t even show a quarter of them...

A number of shoeboxes were distributed to foster dogs who were at the show, and others have been delivered to our fosters throughout Cornwall who couldn't make it, as well as other needy pooches. Christmas is traditionally a time of giving, and we were humbled to see how this appeal was embraced by so many, with donations coming in from all over Cornwall, some with lovely messages inside. Massive thanks to Kd Kelly of The Dog House, Helston, for organising this, the many people who acted as collection points, and of course everyone who donated. We really cannot thank you enough.

Our Christmas Fun Dog Show was a brilliant afternoon of joy, beautiful dogs, and a lot of laughter. Our Best in Show was the lovely Yani, a 6 month old Whippet handled and owned by Karen Gallie who was shocked by her win! Pippin took Reserve, an LCH rescue owned by Laura Crouch, a worthy reserve winner, celebrating his 1st Gotcha day the following day.

We will soon be planning our schedule for dog shows throughout 2020, keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for details.

Everyone loves a raffle, especially when the prizes make good Christmas gifts.... Denise Hurst put together her own super raffle prizes, and tickets were sold to friends, family and LCH supporters, raising a fantastic £242. Thank you Denise, for your very kind and valued support.

The LCH Hub Shop in Redruth also held a raffle of hampers and all sorts, lovely donations coming from regular visitors and further afield. The total raised came in at a record £503! Thank you so much to all who bought tickets and donated prizes. And a thank you also to our dedicated volunteers in the shop for organising it.

Thank you!

Asda Ladies

A big thank you to the ladies from the bakery department at Falmouth/Penryn Asda for the lovely donation of goodies for the dogs in our care.

Facebook Fundraisers!

Many many thanks to Lizzy Raymer, Mary Curphey, Pat O'Dell, Rebecca Allen, and Jen Harris for thinking of LCH for their birthdays, and asking friends and family to donate to help with our vet bill instead of giving presents. Belated 50th birthday greetings to Lizzy, and very best wishes to Mary, Pat, Becky and Jen for their birthdays this month.

Facebook fundraisers are a super way to raise funds for our animals in need, and we are always very grateful to those who turn their special day into something special for LCH.

Talking LCH

Volunteer Carolyn Harding is our 'go to' lady for spreading the word about our work, by way of talks in all sorts of settings, - schools, social groups, and recently, pictured here, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Looe. The lovely residents and staff there joined together to make two huge hampers of goodies for our dogs, and presented them to Carolyn on her arrival. A very big thank you to the kind and thoughtful people at Hillcrest for this wonderful donation.

Happy Gotcha Day!

“Gotcha Day” is the name given to the day a lucky hound first came into his or her forever home.

Happy Gotcha day Abbey 🎉

We have had the pleasure of this beautiful, but crazy, girl for a whole year 💖 Started off a bit bumpy but only took a couple of days for her to settle in and become a much loved member of our family 🐕 PM

Did you Know?

We have a NEW LAST CHANCE HOTEL FACEBOOK PAGE, which aims to keep you updated with all the latest news on the dogs and much more. Please click on the link and ‘like’ our page.

We have other Facebook groups: LAST CHANCE HOTEL AUCTION runs auctions throughout the year, with loads of fab stuff up for grabs, raising vital funds for our vet bill.

Our Amazon Wishlist, by which you can purchase specific goodies and have them delivered to us, is a lovely way to send a present for our animals! The link will take you straight there for a browse of all sorts of goodies from toys and chews to harnesses, coats and lovely food.

There are also ways to help raise funds for us whilst you’re shopping online, which don’t cost you a penny. Easyfundraising is a scheme whereby you can shop at many popular retailers such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, and they will donate a small percentage (usually 1%) of your order to the charity of your choice, with no extra expense to you. Giveasyoulive is a similar scheme, with over 4000 retailers involved.

AMAZON run their own scheme called Amazon Smile, please use this if you shop with them.

Like all charities, we depend almost entirely upon the generosity of our wonderful supporters. We have several ways in which monetary donations can be made: PayPal is easy and convenient for the many people who hold an account.

JustGiving provides another way of donating and also an opportunity for individuals to fundraise for us through sponsorship of a personal challenge. In addition, it allows us to claim back the Gift Aid part of the donation which can add vital pennies.

If neither of these methods are suitable, then we are more than happy to accept donations via direct bank transfer using the following information:

Barclays
Last Chance Hotel
Sort code: 20-67-19
Account no: 73797503
(Do drop us a quick email with your details so we can say thanks!)

or cheques, if sent to our Treasurer, at the address given at the bottom of this newsletter.

These and other ways to donate, such as direct to our vets, are listed in detail on our website donations page.

Legacies are also a vital source of support and we now have a dedicated page on our website which provides information on legacies and about leaving a gift in your Will to Last Chance Hotel. All donations enable us to continue our work in rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming, and legacies provide a future for the charity, as well as giving us further opportunity to educate, inform and promote responsible pet ownership.

Thank you from Team LCH and all the animals!
