Since its inception in 2021, PHI’s residency program has supported creators from a wide range of disciplines, fostering an environment where technology, art, and storytelling intersect. With over 400 applications received in the last edition, PHI has established itself as a key incubator for contemporary artistic practices in Montréal.
Four Residencies, Four Approaches to Reimagining Creation
PHI MONTRÉAL RESIDENCY
Open to one artist from Montréal and one from outside the metropolis, this six-month residency provides a space for developing a public engagement project in collaboration with PHI. The outcomes of this residency can take various forms, including (but not limited to) lectures, performances, an exhibition, or creative workshops. This residency is made possible with the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ). For more information on the PHI Montréal residency, visit phi.ca.

PHI NORTH RESIDENCY
PHI North is a residency designed for Canadian-based musicians, offering a unique opportunity to delve into and fine-tune their projects. This program provides a two-week creative retreat at a private estate in the Laurentian mountains and includes exclusive access to a recording studio, along with technical support from an in-house sound engineer. This year, PHI North introduces a new two-part structure. Artists can now apply under “Musical Project,” dedicated to works by a solo artist, group, or collective, or “Immersive Audio,” focused on immersive sound creation with a strong musical component. PHI IMMERSIVE RESIDENCY: XR FOR IMPACT
PHI Immersive is an intensive four-week residency program in collaboration with PHI Studio in Montréal, Canada. In partnership with Agog: The Immersive Media Institute, the residency program is designed to support creators by offering collaborative opportunities with PHI Studio experts and resources. This program is designed to support creators residing in North America whose practices imagine a more just future through new media, extended reality (XR) technologies, artificial intelligence, and immersive sound or audio. INVISIBLE VOICES RESIDENCY
Invisible Voices is a three-day intensive program directed by Jorge Camarotti that will grant 6 to 8 creators and storytellers from Black communities from the Greater Montréal area the opportunity to benefit from masterclasses and mentoring sessions presented at PHI. This professional development program will allow participants to learn and exchange on a variety of themes, such as innovative storytelling, music, directing, animation, editing, the challenges of filmmaking, funding and grants, and much more.
