The Magazine Kiosk | Curated by Daniel McCabe

There’s a distinct trend towards high end luxury in contemporary fashion print publishing, with many titles now selling with a cover price around £35 or more. This shouldn’t obscure a wave of innovative and accessibly-priced new entrants, as well an established clutch of titles that leverage their advertising clout and their access to A-list photographers and stylists put out high quality magazines at low prices. One of our favourite is Antwerp’s RE-EDITION which fuses fashion with abstract and street vibes to construct something that's just off-kilter, yet wholly mesmerising. It attempts to reinterpret how we dress ourselves and our perceptions of clothing on other people, breaking boundaries between conformities such as age and gender. It’s mammoth, it’s published twice a year and it’s out this week for well under a tenner.

Dive into The Festival of Nature, 7 - 15 June
The UK’s biggest free nature festival returns this June, with a powerful new theme – all about water – designed to take audiences beyond the typical green spaces and discover the importance of an often overlooked vital life force.
Running across Bristol and Bath, the festival features more than 80 events, most of them free. The theme of water literally runs through the heart of the festival, with the River Avon connecting events in Bristol Harbourside and along Bath’s waterfront, from wildlife boat trips and outdoor exhibitions to paddleboarding taster sessions and screenings with a river view.
Highlights include a wildlife boat trip with expert zoologist and TV personality Ed Drewitt, ex-BBC presenter Ali Vowles’ environmental chat show aboard a boat, and the festival’s first ever nature-themed club night, Club SOL, at the Old Market Assembly.
To really make a splash, the centrepiece of the packed nine-day festival will be a living, breathing 8x8m wetland brought to life in Bristol’s Harbourside.

A behind-the-scenes peak at Gromit Unleashed...
There’s just two months to go until Gromit Unleashed returns to the city, in the hotly anticipated return of the acclaimed sculpture trail that will raise money for The Grand Appeal, the dedicated charity for Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Organisers, The Grand Appeal and Aardman, have now released a behind-the-brush glimpse of the works in progress. Artists, film studios and celebrities are busy working in secret reimagining Aardman’s iconic characters, taking inspiration from movies and the legends, fables and tales that have inspired them.
In secret studios, new sculpture artworks are coming to life while some are even crossing the seas and travelling the length and breadth of the UK before being unleashed on the streets of Bristol this summer...
The sculptures will hit the streets of Bristol from 30 June to 31 August, before being auctioned off later in the year in aid of The Grand Appeal.

National design competition to celebrate Bristol Bus Boycott legacy
A new national design competition, Designs4Change, will see powerful artwork celebrating racial justice displayed on billboards across the UK.
Launched by Bristol Bus Boycott 360, the Bauer Media Outdoor competition invites creatives from across the country to submit artwork inspired by the 60th anniversary of the Race Relations Act - one of the UK’s most significant civil rights movements.
The Designs4Change campaign builds on the success of last year’s Bristol-focused project, when bus shelter artworks across the city celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Bristol Bus Boycott. This year, it goes national, and ten winning designs will be featured nationwide at bus stops, train stations and shopping malls, ensuring the Race Relations legacy reaches new audiences.
The competition is now open and entries can be made before Friday 4 July 2025.
Click here for more information, to enter the competition, and to find out about Curiosity UnLtd's ambitious plan to bring Martin Luther King III to the city.

A beautifully presented Grade II* listed three-storey country house in the Wye Valley
7 bedrooms | 4 Bathrooms | 5 Receptions
Guide price: £2,600,000
Offered for sale by Knight Frank
The Argoed is a beautifully presented and imposing, Grade II* listed, three storey country house. The core of the property dates back to Jacobean times. This special home is set within approximately 10 acres, enjoying breathtaking views, an impressive arboretum and a ‘monumental’ stable block. The famed architectural historian, John Newman, described The Argoed quite simply as ‘tantalising'.
It is perfectly evident that the present owners have lavished the house with much care and attention, not least of all by refurbishing the sash windows and intelligently relocating the kitchen/breakfast room into the heart of the home; making full use of its dual aspect and incorporating a five door electric AGA.
The property comprises five reception rooms, principal suite, wood panelled guest suite and five further bedrooms, a total of four bathrooms, kitchen/breakfast room, guest cloakroom, two utility rooms, integral garage, gardener’s workshop and WC, greenhouse, stable block and five additional rooms across the entire second floor.
Of particular highlight is the principal suite and guest suite. The former extends across the entire southeast side of the The Argoed, catching the morning sun through the large Georgian windows. The latter is adorned with attractive, floor to ceiling wood panelling offering a respectful nod to the home’s Jacobean origins.
The gardens and grounds of The Argoed are listed on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. They are glorious, with a traditional country house blend of gravel, grass, shrubs and borders with breathtaking views across the valley. There is a Japanese garden set around a water feature, accompanied by an open fronted loggia. The garden also includes an impressive ha-ha renovated by the current owners. The arboretum is well established and fascinating and the fact that the English translation of ‘argoed’ is ‘by the wood’, makes its presence all the more fitting.
