Leanne's Divorcing Well podcast: Strategic financial planning vital in divorce
Most aspects of divorce come down to money so it's important to have a solid understanding of your finances before, during and after divorce.
In a recent episode of my Divorcing Well podcast, I spoke to Patricia Greco, a Chartered Financial Divorce Specialist, who helps clients with strategic financial planning at all stages of their divorce process.
Patricia says while the initial conversation about finances can be daunting, creating a financial plan helps to take the fear out of the future and ensure you're making informed choices.
If you're thinking about divorce or in the middle of one, you won't want to miss her great tips and advice about money matters.
I'm thrilled to announce the newest addition to my legal team, law clerk Robin Chilton. Her 20+ years of experience in family law, including work with the Ministry of Corrections, Probation and the Crown Attorney’s office, make her a perfect fit at the firm.
Robin has also worked at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital and volunteered with the Canadian Mental Health Association, and those experiences have equipped her with a great deal of patience, understanding and empathy.
Robin spends her free time with her miniature dachshund and Siamese cat, her stepchildren, niece and great-nephew, all of whom bring her great joy!
If you've ever been involved with a narcissist, you probably enjoyed watching HBO's The Undoing as much as I did.
In the six-part series, Hugh Grant plays Jonathan Fraser, a pediatric oncologist whose web of lies unravels after he's arrested for the murder of his mistress.
I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched but suffice it to say it's like taking a master class in narcissism.
In my new blog post, I explore how narcissists often appear as charming and charismatic only to do an about-face once they reel in their targets. I also dish on what psychologists are saying about Hugh Grant's character in the series.
Tips for resolving disputes with your ex over the holidays
With restrictions on social gatherings in place for much of the province, the holidays won't look the same this year. But what happens if your ex plans to take the kids to a large family party against your wishes?
In a recent Instagram Live with family law lawyer Steve Benmor, we discussed potential scenarios co-parents may face over the holidays and offer our best guidance for how to resolve them.
If the first round of lockdown taught us anything it's that the courts don't look favourably on anyone who breaches a court order. Judges expect divorced parents to be reasonable and place the interests of their children first.
Check out the replay here and our suggestion for the best gift divorced parents can give their children this holiday season.
Co-parenting in a pandemic
Even in the best of circumstances co-parenting can be a struggle. A global pandemic has done nothing to ease the burden. If anything, it's added new issues to the list of disputes divorced couples have to negotiate when it comes to their children.
Co-parents now have to navigate pandemic protocols and schooling decisions (online versus in class) alongside arguments about support where a payer’s income has been reduced because of the pandemic.
In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, I offered some tips for how to effectively co-parent.
As we navigate the new normal amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety and well-being of clients is my top priority. Social distancing is vital right now to prevent the spread of the virus so I will continue to work with clients through virtual meetings. If you have any questions or concerns about your family law matter or would like to schedule a meeting, please reach out to me by email.
