Happy October

I hope you are having a splendid Autumn/Spring in whichever hemisphere you are.

I wanted to let you know I’m still around. I’m making progress on the house but also on the next book and a couple of other projects.

We finished and furnished the master bedroom a couple of weeks ago. I love my new mattress.

And When I Wake is book three in the Fellowship Dystopia series. The foundation of the story is taking shape.

Miranda is afraid she could have prevented Nick's death if she had reacted more like a warrior. Now she's determined to avenge his death as a warrior. But that mindset goes against her nature so she's questioning her every action and reaction, and she's secretly afraid she's turning into what she hates: her parents.

I’m developing the major scenes. Once I’ve got an idea on the major points of the story, the actual writing will start.

I just finished Becky Chamber’s A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. I know I’m way behind. It’s an easy-to-read space opera with a bunch of characters you grow to care about. Secrets abound and lessons are learned. It’s a book that leaves you thinking.

I'm watching an 8 episode original Netflix series called To the Lake. 

"As a contagious illness,, panic and looting ravage Moscow, a thrown-together band of families and neighbors forms a shaky alliance for survival."

This show is Russian made so I watch with the English translation. I'm on episode 4. It is relentlessly bleak and dark, but the characters keep me interested.

I find it fascinating to watch shows made in different countries. There are more commonalities than differences. The differences can be off-putting to some, but there are lessons for writers even in those. 

Until last night, I hoped that with my son's help, we'd finish two more rooms by the end of this month. Last night they admitted my three-year-old grandson, who's had a non-COVID cold for the last week, to the hospital with breathing problems related to this viral illness he has. He's doing better this morning.  Obviously my son will spend all of my his free time with his family. 

So next month, I'll continue doing the little things I can do to get my home remodeling as close to finished as I can. I'll continue working on And When I Wake, and I hope to have something special for you Reading Rebels.
