Message from Rev. Aileen

I sometimes feel like the world is under siege. There is escalating violence in the Middle East, Australia is burning in no small part because of Climate Change, there has been anti-Semitic violence over the holidays. All of these things make me fear for the world. And yet, I have hope because I am part of a community of faith that is held together by a structure of love, care and integrity. When I think about that, I realize that, whatever happens, we can face it because we have each other.

Help Popal Family Move

In August of 2016, our congregation, along with the Fairfax UU Congregation, agreed to co-sponsor a family from Afghanistan in their resettlement in the U.S. The family consisted of a mother with two children. They settled in Reston, and with financial support from both congregations, personal assistance in handling daily activities, improving English language, transportation, etc., the family is now managing on their own. They are moving to a new apartment and the coordinator for the Fairfax Refugee Committee is requesting volunteers to help with the moving.

Social Justice Meeting

Are you called to serve the community? With the beginning of a new year, it’s a good time to plan our future work for social justice. Please join us to review UUCS’ current efforts, consider interest in other efforts, and discuss how to form a team to advocate and implement a vision of a better Loudoun County and more just world. Please contact John Botts (johnabotts@aol.com) if you are interested in attending the meeting.
