A quickie message this week as I write on Wednesday before packing up the computer to take to PPFF Central in Camp Hill for a trade in and take part in a couple of days of tree planting. Today, Marci and crew are at Sam Lewis in York County; tomorrow we'll be at Susquehannock in Lancaster. 

I bet there will be a couple of photos here - or on Facebook at least!

The masthead this week is a lovely Adam Falls sunrise timed just so by photographer Bob Stough. Great jigsaw puzzle, too, no? Yes!

Thanks, too, to friends and family from York's Hippie Girl Collection (who closed down the shop for the day) for coming out on Wednesday to help with the planting there. Thanks to the staff at the Sam Lewis/Susquehannock park complex for their hard work in getting 22 trees in the ground over two days. Ash trees that had been impacted by emerald ash borer were replaced with a variety of native oak species purchased through a grant from a Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Giant Healing the Planet Grant and your donations through @ExtraGive.

Staff from Merchology joined PPFF Brian and staff from the Michaux Forest District to restore woodcock habitat in the forest on Thursday. The project is partially funded through a Bass Pro/Cabela’s grant and funds donated to the Living Gifts program from the Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg.

For intrepid explorers who might be considering a trek on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (a/k/a Laurel Ridge State Park), Trail Mama Georgetta has created another of her helpful videos for newbies on the sometimes confusing (and seemingly ever-changing path the trail takes through Seven Springs Resort. 

And if you would like to join the Ridge Runners volunteer group and do a little trail care for the LHHT, Park Manager Mike has announced that the first session for the season will take place on June 4 (National Trails Day). This is a great group with whom to raise a shovel or clipper and more hands are always welcome. Contact Mike via email if you'd like to be added to announcements for details. You may even get to meet Trail Mama herself!

Last week's "trivia" was one of those not trivial questions wherein we asked you to share a memory of your favorite times in a state park in honor of #ILoveMyStateParksWeek. Phyllis loved lunch with mom at the new pavilion at Prince Gallitzin; Carol is new to PA so it's all a wonder (including the new visitors center at Hickory Run), Somerset County Carol loves the high point of PA in the Forbes State Forest. Diane remember catching a little fish caught at Nockamixon only to have it stolen from her by an osprey! Then there's John, who canoed the Clarion at Cook Forest with his then-pregnant wife where they "crashed into shore." He got wet. She did not. Chivalry in the outdoors.

May's full moon takes place just after midnight on Monday but Sunday night offers a lunar eclipse visible to us here on the East Coast beginning around 10:30 pm. We are ready although the forecast right now is discouraging. Hope springs eternal!

In honor of the moon's show, our trivia question comes today from Reader Ray who asked me whether it was in Fridays that he read about Moon Trees. It wasn't. But I am grateful for the tip. A rare species, how many Moon Trees do we have in Pennsylvania?
