The Network at the KREE, Kuwait  Renewable Energy Event, 20 – 21 March 2019, Kuwait

Τhe Kuwait Renewable Energy Event (KREE) is taking place at the KISR premises on 20-21 March 2019. The 2-day symposium focuses on Renewable Energy technologies and  Kuwait oil production against the electricity consumption in the next 10 years. Furthermore, a round table discussion will take place, to discuss how we can increase renewable energy in Kuwait by making  incentives for residential citizen of Kuwait. 

The Network is represented at the event by Frank Wouters, Network Director who contributes with a presentation on Hydrogen Energy. 

The Network at the Hydrogen Valleys, 26 – 27 March 2019, Antwerp, Belgium

The Mission Innovation Challenge 8 - “Hydrogen Valleys" workshop will take place on 26 – 27 March 2019 in Antwerp Port Authority/Havenbedrijf Antwerpen, Zaha, Hadidplein 1, 2030 Antwerpen, Belgium.

The European Commission, in collaboration with the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, Australia and Germany, is organising the second workshop of the Renewable and Clean Hydrogen Challenge of Mission Innovation. This 2-day event will focus on the critical success factors for enabling large-scale hydrogen projects, the so-called “Hydrogen Valleys”. The discussions will contribute to shaping the prospective information-sharing platform that will be established under Mission Innovation Hydrogen Challenge in order to leverage exchange of expertise between member countries, identify priority actions and facilitate collaborations.

The Network is invited to participate in the two day event and will be represented by the Director of the Network Frank Wouters.

Τhe Network at the Eurogas Annual Conference, 3 April 2019, Brussels, Belgium

Eurogas Annual Conference will take place on Wednesday on 3 April 2019 in Brussels, Belgium. This year’s Eurogas Annual Conference on “Gas – part of the solution?” will address issues for the energy and the gas sectors in relation to the European Commission’s long-term vision to achieve a climate neutral Europe by 2050, the forthcoming gas legislation, sector integration and the role of renewable and decarbonised gases in the future sustainable energy mix. Frank Wouters, Network Director is invited to participate as a speaker at the session: Going global – What can Europe Learn?

1st GCC regional workshop on Energy - Water Nexus, 24-25 April 2019, Muscat, Oman

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Muscat and the Oman Water Society, organise an EU-GCC event to be hosted alongside to the Oman Energy & Water 2019. The 2-day event is entitled “Addressing the Energy-Water Nexus through integrated approaches & regional cooperation” and is scheduled for 24-25 April 2019 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat, Oman.

The workshop aims to discuss water and electricity security and affordability, addressing environmental concerns including CO2 emissions and increasing salinity of the gulf as well as possibilities for regional cooperation. Furthermore, the meeting is an opportunity for policymakers, researchers, operators and experts from GCC and EU Countries to elicit the views on the strategies and action plans that would be relevant for the Gulf region.

The Network supports the Saudi Sustainable Energy and Technology Forum, 29 April - 01 May 2019, Riyadh, KSA

EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is a supporting organisation of the Saudi Sustainable Energy and Technology Forum which will be held concurrently with Saudi Elenex 2019 at the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center (RICEC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 29 April to 01 May 2019.

Showcasing state-of-the-art innovation in the dynamic field of power and energy, Saudi Elenex 2019 marks the 22nd edition of the International Show for Electricity, Alternative Energy, Water Technology, Lighting & HVAC in Saudi Arabia which is held concurrently with Saudi Aircon 2019 - The International Show for Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) from 29 April to 01 May 2019. The Network is planning a workshop in the working area of Electricity Interconnections and Markets. Soon to be announced. 

The Network is organising a study tour on CSP and Decarbonisation strategies", in cooperation in coordination with the GCC Secretariat General and CENER in Spain. Soon to be announced. 

Τhe Network at the Intersolar Middle East Conference, 5 - 6 March 2019, Dubai, UAE

For one more year the Network was present at the Intersolar Middle East taking place in Dubai on 5-6 March. Specifically, at the second day of the conference on March 6th which focuses on Electrical Energy Storage, Dr Mustapha Taoumi, Network’s Clean Energy Technology Expert contributed at the session Renewable Energies and Digitization - the Basis of a New Energy World? delivering a presentation entitled “Smart grids, Storage, and Digitization for higher integration of Renewable Energy” and also participated at the panel discussion to follow.

The Network at the 3rd IEF-EU Energy Day, 26 February 26 2019 

The 3rd IEF-EU Energy Day took place in Riyadh, KSA on Tuesday 26 February 2019 and contributed to the understanding of the economics of new energy technologies and evolving energy policies aimed at making energy markets more productive, sustainable and secure.

The Network was represented by Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Clean Energy Technology Expert who contributed at the 1st session entitled “The Economics of New Energy Technologies in Europe and the Gulf Region”, which is moderated by HE Jörg Ranau, Ambassador of Germany to Saudi Arabia.

The Network at the ISGH International Conference 2019, 13 – 14 February 2019, Dubai, UAE

EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network participated at the ISGH International Conference 2019 that took place in Dubai, UAE on 13 – 14 February 2019. The Network was represented by Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Network’s Clean Energy Technology Expert who delivered a presentation on the 1st day of the conference entitled “New tendencies in Energy Efficiency in Buildings-Designing towards Net Zero Energy Public Buildings”.

Fostering EU and GCC collaboration on Energy Efficiency, Emissions to Value and the economic benefits and value of reducing and/or avoiding emissions, 17 January 2019, Muscat 

On 17 January 2019, in Muscat Oman, the Network organized a high level workshop on “Fostering EU and GCC collaboration on Energy Efficiency, Emissions to Value and the economic benefits and value of reducing and/or avoiding emissions”. High level officials and experts from the European Commission, the European External Action Service and GCC energy authorities, as well as the GCC Secretariat General and the Network participated at the event and contributed in the discussions on collaboration possibilities between GCC and EU on Energy Efficiency and Emissions to Value. 

7th EU Energy Day "Towards an integrated clean energy transition: the role of sector coupling", 14 January 2019, Abu Dhabi, UAE

The 7th EU Energy Day "Towards an integrated clean energy transition: the role of sector coupling" was organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Energy supported by the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network on 14 January in Abu Dhabi, UAE as part of the EU side events programme at the World Future Energy Summit 2019. The event addressed the concept of sector coupling for accelerating the clean energy transition by discussing the current policy frameworks, the role of innovation and the importance of international cooperation activities. The EU Energy Day included two thematic sessions dedicated to:

  • Policy frameworks for an integrated clean energy transition
  • Leading developments in sector coupling and an integrated clean energy transition

Moreover, the Network had an extensive presence at the WFES 2019 Energy Forum. Frank Wouters, the Network Director contributed at the panel discussion “The future role of hydrogen in storage and energy management”, while Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert participated and contributed at the “Successfully managing a decentralised energy environment” panel. The panel session “Lining up the moving parts: What should be in place to enable dynamic energy transition - part 2: Private Sector” joined Nick Carter, Network convener on Electricity Interconnections.
