A word from our Principal, Claire

At Quest we are constantly developing our programmes to ensure the skills our students gain are in line with the requirements of businesses today. We talk to the employers we work with about the aptitudes they are looking for when recruiting and we adapt our course content accordingly.

This month I have been spending time in the classroom watching students and trainers in action. The purpose of this is two-fold. Firstly, it enables me to monitor the content and quality of course delivery at Quest. Secondly, it gives me the opportunity to see our students learning, developing and preparing for the workplace.

Quest programmes are truly unique. There is nowhere else where young people can gain such a range of hard and soft work-related skills, whilst being prepared for every aspect of the job application process, right down to the tiny details such as personal styling!

Guest Talk

Sarah Blackwell from Deutsche Bank came in to speak to our PA students earlier this month! She completed a Quest course with us in 2009 and spoke to the students about her time at Quest, how it contributed to her career progression and gave the students an insight into what it’s like to work in the environment that she does.

Houses of Parliament

One of the best advantages of our location is the proximity to a number of fantastic sites. A favourite of our students is visiting the Houses of Parliament to learn more about politics and current affairs. This month the Graduate Training Programme students had the chance to sit in on the debates in both the House of Commons and House of Lords.

Photoshop Workshop

The BAs and PAs took part in a Branding and Photoshop workshop this month. They were tasked to use Photoshop to create a new brand concept from scratch. Most of the students had never used Photoshop and initially found the task challenging however after getting to grips with some of the basics the end results were fantastic!

Refer a friend Scheme

Do you know someone who may benefit from studying on one of our programmes? Refer them to us and you will receive a voucher worth £100.

This month we had one lucky student who walked away with £100 in Sainsbury's vouchers.

Quest Days

These training days offer students the opportunity to learn more about a particular industry sector, through practical tasks based on real work situations and assessed by experts in those fields.

This month the PDs and September BAs took on the challenge of the Property Quest Day, with the support of Brandon Van Der Westhuizen from Dexters, one of London's leading estate agents and property advisers.

Our September BA group then took on the Insurance Quest Day with Ed Colville from DTW1991 Insurance and Harry Richardson from Guy Carp Insurance.

Finally we had Web Quest for the Jan BAs and PDs. Matt Marriott, a graphic designer, helped assist our groups in coming up with their concepts.

Assessment Centres

Assessment centre practice was carried out by our September BAs, PAs and Graduate Training Programme students this month. The purpose of this exercise is that it helps prepare them for the type of psychometric testing they may face whilst going through the job application process in large corporations.

They took part in an in-tray exercise where they had to prioritize a range of tasks, as well as team building exercises to solve problems.

Key competencies assessed were verbal communication, teamwork, analysing and investigation and time management.

It was a really successful day – and we would like to congratulate you all for the professionalism you demonstrated!

Recruitment Fair

Our September BAs, PAs and Graduate Training Programme students met London recruitment agencies this month in order to assist with their job search.  We ran a recruitment fair where we invited 9 agencies including Tiger Recruitment, Angela Mortimer, Adidem Consulting, Buchanan Search, Morgan Spencer, Crone Corkill, Deverell Smith, Lisa Levan and Anderson Hoare.  This was a successful event and a crucial element of the student exit strategy.

Mock Interviews

This month the BAs, PAs and Graduate Training Programme Students headed off for mock interviews with recruitment companies that we work closely with. The companies included Angela Mortimer, Anderson Hoare, Harrison Holgate, Morgan Spencer, Crone Corkill, Major Players and Deverell Smith. Following the visit, the recruitment companies will feed back to us after meeting each student, enabling us to provide tailored interview help and guidance before ‘real’ interviews.

Lloyd's of London

Our lucky PD and January BA students went to Lloyd's of London this month, to learn about the ins and outs of the insurance industry. There was a tour of the building and a presentation by one of the Insurance Brokers. The purpose of the excursion was to afford our students a chance to explore what working in the insurance industry would be like.

Supreme Court Visit

For the first time, the September BAs visited the Supreme Court and listened to a talk about the role of the Court. With their Current Affairs trainer, Dominique Kolimechkov, they then sat in and listened to judgements made about cases that had occurred the week before. It was all very interesting and we hope they enjoyed it.

We are pleased to announce our affiliation with Kings Tutors. Earlier this month we attended a coffee morning hosted by them to learn all about the 11+ process. The talk was delivered by headmistress Dina Mallett from Cameron House school and it afforded us the opportunity to network with parents and tutors.

Find out more about their company below:

Fundraising achievements by students

We are always impressed by our students and their tenacity to get involved in fundraising efforts. This month special mention goes to the following students for their hard work:

Freya Richardson (PA) has just begun her trek of the Sahara - we wish her the best of luck and look forward to seeing the photographs. You can view her Just Giving Page here.

We would also like to say a big congratulations to Olivia Yates and Laura Pollard (both PD) for completing the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon in support of Action for A-T. They and their fellow students are all taking on various challenges in 2019 to raise funds for A-T research.
