Early last month, we drove down to Orlando, Florida to set up at Megacon. This was something like our 17th year attending the show, and while we are always happy to attend this show to make some great comic deals, we were also grateful to escape the Maryland winter for a week.
As always, I'm fascinated by the shifts in the vintage comic market, and this show seemed to have a thirst for everything from Bronze to Gold. We were asked for all the big Silver Age Marvel books (think ASM #1, AF #15, FF #1, X-Men #1, etc). In addition to that, we sold copies of Amazing Spider-Man #129, Fantastic Four #48, Giant-Size X-Men #1 and were asked for many books we unfortunately didn't have any copies of like Silver Surfer #4. Golden Age pre code horror books did well, and of course we were asked for all the name brand titles like Batman, Captain America Comics, EC's, and more.
It was great to see a surge of interest in these bigger books as the market has fallen the last few years and I'm interested to see how the market looks through the spring and summer.
This show was a great success for us and we were able to complete a number of deals, including a purchase for a Batman #1 CGC 1.5! As long as we have been doing this, it's always a thrill to see what books walk up to the booth, and we were thrilled to be able to take that one home.
We brought home more than two shortboxes full of new books, all of which have since been listed and you can check out on the website.
