Bright spots could be key to securing the future of declining coral reefs

A study by Florida State University researchers shows that the decline of living hard coral on reefs around the world doesn't signal a threat to the entire reef's future. Assistant Professor of Geography Sarah Lester, along with Assistant Professors of Biological Science Andrew Rassweiler and Sophie McCoy, helped lead the study, published in the journal Global Change Biology. Read more ...

Members appointed to President’s Task Force on Anti-Racism, Equity & Inclusion

FSU President John Thrasher appointed 30 members of the university community to the President’s Task Force on Anti-Racism, Equity & Inclusion for the 2020-2021 academic year. The task force is charged with exploring the university’s historical connections to race and ethnicity, identifying racial/ethnic disparities on campus and implementing initiatives in support of the diversity and inclusion goal in the university’s strategic plan. Read more ...

Florida State University’s Museum of Fine Arts has opened the new virtual exhibit New Landscapes,” featuring more than 30 photographic works on loan from selected artists and from the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibit runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. Read more ...

Jhanji appointed interim vice president for University Advancement

Florida State University President John Thrasher announced Wednesday, July 22, that Andy A. Jhanji, executive vice president of the FSU Foundation, will serve as interim vice president for University Advancement, effective Aug. 10. Jhanji will succeed Tom Jennings, who announced in June that he accepted a position as vice president for University Advancement at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. FSU biochemists shed light on how cells move resources

Florida State University researchers have new insight into the tiny packages that cells use to move molecules, a structure that is key to cellular metabolism, drug delivery and more. Mohammadreza Paraan, a researcher at FSU’s Institute of Molecular Biophysics, was the study’s lead author and Scott Stagg, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, co-authored the study, which was published in the journal Science Advances.
