"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things."

2,018 New COVID-19 Cases & 35 Deaths Reported in Kentucky for January 24, 2021
(171 New Cases in Fayette County)
Even with the availability of the long awaited COVID-19 vaccines, it is still important and necessary to continue to practice the CDC and Kentucky Governor's Guidance and Mandates. The distribution and administration of the vaccines to millions of people is a monumental task and will take time. Meanwhile we must stay steadfast, vigilant and disciplined in the adherence of safe practices as provided by the CDC and the Kentucky Governor's Health advice in light of the continued spread of the virus. Click CDC VACCINE INFORMATION for some information from the CDC on the COVID-19 vaccines.
- Get a flu vaccination as soon as possible but getting it any time in the flu season is beneficial. VaccineFinderexternal icon to find out where to get vaccinated near you.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick, maintain at least 6 feet from others who are not from your household,
- Wear face masks when in public (Mandatory in Kentucky and is being extended on a 30 day basis until the spread is under control),
- Wash your hands frequently,
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and leave home only when absolutely necessary.

Today's Bible Study Lesson
“Called as the Intercessor”
Aim: Explore Jesus’ intercessory prayer for His disciples, Long for Jesus’ prayer to be answered more fully in our lives and the church, and Pray for others and work for unity in the body of Christ.
Background: John 17:14-24
Bible Lesson: John 17:14-24
Memory Verse:
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;” John 17:20 KJV
Some Highlights:
- As Jesus prepares for the completion of His Divine mission in sacrificing His life on the Cross for our sins to provide the path for our reconciliation with God, he prays in the presence of His disciples as recorded in John 17. In verses 1 -5, Jesus prays regarding Himself and His mission. In verses 6-19, Jesus prays for His disciples, and finally in verses 20-24, He prays for All believers. Our Bible Study passage for today, John 17:14-24, deals with Jesus’ prayer for his disciples and for future disciples, modern day believers, in other words for you and for me.
- The prayer recorded in Matthew 6:9-13 has been called the “Lord’s Prayer,” but it is more accurately called the “Model Prayer,” for it provides a pattern for believers to approach Our Heavely Father in Prayer. It was given by Jesus to his disciples as a teaching on how to pray. The true “Lord’s Prayer” is recorded in John 17.
- Jesus’ Divine Mission was to make known the Father and to bring true Salvation to mankind. Teaching the Word and living the Word was the method that Jesus used in making known the Father.
- In Jesus’ prayer, He makes it plain that the world hated the disciples because they do not belong to the world, just as Jesus did not belong to the world.
- Even though the world hates the disciples and may have wished to do them harm, Jesus does not pray that God the Father remove them from the world, but that HE keep them safe from the evil one, who is the Prince of this World, Satan. God has the power to keep us from all harm for HE is All powerful (Omniscient).
- Jesus prays that God the Father will make the disciples holy, in other words dedicated and consecrated to Him, as HE teaches them the Truth, which is God’s Word.
- Jesus further states that He is sending the disciples into the world to evangelize just as He was sent into the world by God the Father on a heavenly mission.
- Jesus declares that He will be the Perfect Consecrated Sacrifice by death on the Cross for their sins and our sins. This sacrifice on Calvary provides the opportunity for Eternal Life for all who believe in Him. This Sacrifice, was the second part of Jesus’ Divine Mission, that is providing true Salvation for mankind.
- In verse 20, Jesus explands His prayer beyond the disciples to future believers, who will be drawn to Him by the spreading of the Word of God.
- Jesus further prays for unity for all believers and points to the perfect unity that He, God the Son, has with God the Father as an example and an ultimate goal. This unity will further the mission of giving evidence to Jesus as being the Son of God sent into the world by God the Father. Jesus also expresses His perfect love for us equal to the love that God the Father has for God the Son.
- Jesus closes His prayer with the request for eternal fellowship with His disciples by requesting that they may see His Glory in Heaven which He possessed even before the world began.
Take Aways:
- Pray is powerful. While on earth, Jesus prayed much and taught His disciples to pray. Why would we not appropriate this precious Christian benefit to talk with and to commune with Our Heavenly Father through prayer?
- Jesus included us in His prayer centuries ago as recorded in John 17 and continues to intercede for us at the right hand of God the Father.
- If Jesus prayed an intercessory prayer for His disciples and for us, why would we not offer intercessory prayers for our family members and for others.
- It is important for Christians to pursue and to preserve Unity in the Body of Christ.
Bible Verses to Keep in Mind:
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Mathew 21:22 KJV
And he spake a parable unto them [to this end], that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Luke 18:1 KJV
Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16 KJV
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6 KJV
