Diocesan Prayer Intention – Good Shepherd, we pray for cooperation and support for life-saving assistance to people around the world struggling from food insecurity and hunger. Loving God, send life-giving rains at just the right time, create good conditions for families to grow food for their survival, and help us to cease conflict so Your children will no longer go to bed hungry each night. Message from Fr. Mike for Sunday, Oct. 16 |
|
|
|
My dear St. Philip Neri Parishioners,
"What unites us is much greater than what divides us." Pope St. John XXIII
Something from the Parish:
Matthew 25 “… for I was hungry, and you gave me some food; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. (v.35) Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (v.40)
THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU (again) for your generous support of our “school pantry” at Pope John Paul II Elementary School. Your generous response at Mass has been highly appreciated and inspirational.
Please Note: We will continue to discern and respond to the needs within the school, and various other requests in the Community. As the basic food needs of JPII School have currently been fulfilled, the Children’s Change for Change will be put into an account for other future considerations of need. We will keep you informed as to future developments.
NOTE: If you do wish to continue to donate to the “food needs” of JPII School, please respond by putting your cash and/or cheques in a plain envelope addressed to: Pope John Paul II School Food Program, and place your envelope in the regular Sunday collection. We will gladly pass your donation on to the school principal.
Praise be Jesus Christ … and Mary Immaculate
St. Philip Neri … pray for us
St. Eugene de Mazenod … pray for us
St. Kateri Tekakwitha … pray for us
Fr. Mike

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Amen.

Truth and Reconciliation Committee
Discussion Group - Wed. Oct. 26
Please join us on Wednesday,
October 26, 7:00 pm in the church Welcome Area, for the first fall Truth and
Reconciliation Discussion Group. Our focus remains on education and
learning from one another, and on the foundation of hard truths, heartfelt
reflection, and respectful conversation that reconciliation depends upon. If
you joined us last year, we hope you can join us again as we build on
those discussions, but you need not have participated previously. Everyone is
welcome! Just bring your open heart. There are no suggested readings for this
inaugural meeting of the year. The next scheduled meetings will be on the
Wednesday evenings of November 9 and November 23. We will
once again draw on the book Listening to Indigenous Voices, produced by
the Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice. Stay tuned for updates on the
availability of the book. We will also welcome Indigenous guest speakers and
host other activities as the year goes on.

We keep in our prayers ...
- All those who struggle with food insecurity and hunger - locally, nationally and internationally. May we make conscientious efforts to share our abundance with others who do not have enough food on a daily basis.
- The people of Ukraine, who have suffered recent missile attacks and power outages at the hands of Russian invaders. May God watch over the Ukrainian people, keep them safe, and restore peace to their country soon.
- Our Parish community, as we prayerfully reflect on our participation in the 2022 Bishop's Annual Appeal, and how we might bring hope and faith to the world through our prayer, service and financial support.
