The Village Connector Experience (VCE) Newsletter is a new platform to highlight the importance and benefits of social connections, especially when it comes to mitigating the restrictions placed on interaction during the ongoing pandemic.
The monthly newsletter will provide helpful tips and resources to help you improve your social network, even if you have lost contact with friends and family with the passage of time. As stated by researcher Dr. Emma Seppala of Stanford Medicine, “Social connectedness generates a positive feedback loop of social, emotional, and physical well-being”. We all saw the stories about empty dog kennels at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic because more and more people were adopting pets. That mass movement is indicative of our human need to fill the void of companionship and interaction that validates us.
As we age together, all of us must be more vigilant about nurturing relationships, repairing old ties, and venturing out into new stimulating social opportunities. Set aside some time to take stock of your relationships, and if you haven’t touched base with a friend, family member, or acquaintance for a while, then reach out. The return on investment will be surprising. Look out for announcements about our virtual VCE activities including, but not limited to arts & crafts workshops, murder mystery readings, and tea parties.
