Please help me welcome little Elias into the world! He's thoughtful, only fussy as necessary, and appreciates things of beauty. Oh, and he looks like his mother (a good thing!)
He's also the reason I've been absent from all work-related things (include this newsletter) for more than a month. So I would apologize, but I'm too busy cuddling babies at the moment.
Still, I have some interesting stories to share with you as always. Not much of a theme this time around, except that it seems we may be lucky with our sci-fi/fantasy film options in the near future, which is exciting!
1. Although the initial trailer made this look like a horror movie, subsequent interviews and sneak peaks actually make me want to watch The Green Knight. Even if the ending is NOT faithful to the Arthurian epic poem.
2. One of the only "self help" author I admit to reading, Austin Kleon, has a great piece over at GQ about creativity in a pandemic.
3. Is the whole pandemic thing making you feel like you're in a badly written comedy/horror/social satire movie? There may be a reason for this. And the Art of Manliness people can help.
4. One of the wonderful things about the pandemic (yes, there are actually a few) is that it's helped me refocus my attention away from "all the good stuff OUT THERE" to "all the good stuff closer to me". This piece from the NY Times describes a new, more holistic kind of travel that I find appealing in this new world of ours.
5. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for Dune, the movie. I love Villeneuve's work (especially Arrival). This short report makes me want to see it even more.
6. What I'm reading: I'm finding The Spell of the Sensuous by David Abram to be surprisingly moving and fascinating. I'm not done yet, but I'm ready to recommend it to you all.
Thank you again, as always, for coming along with me on my writerly adventures! Stay tuned for some fun news about adventure racing and communing with rabbits in the next newsletter!
~Nicky
P.S. Thank you for reading! If you enjoy my writerly adventures in cow country, would you share this newsletter with a friend? I appreciate it.
