ContraCostaLive.com GOOD EATS for June 1, 2026 โ Billy Ray Ramsey, The Angry Chef
Billy Ray Ramsey!
The Angry Chef โ June 1, 2026
Billy Ray Ramsey does not come here to be nice. He comes here to eat. Contra Costa County โ you think he doesn't know what's out there? He knows. Some of it is BEAUTIFUL. Some of it is a crime against the stove. This week? Sit down. Pay attention. The Angry Chef has things to say.
๐ This Week's Special Guest ๐
Dungeness Crab Roll โ $26.95
Fresh Dungeness crab salad, avocado, soft Hawaiian roll โ served with salad and fries. DUNGENESS. Not imitation. Not dressed up. Fresh Dungeness crab, done right. Do you know how hard it is to get that right? These people got it right. Billy Ray Ramsey does not hand out compliments like they're free. This one was earned. Powder Keg Pub, Hercules. Get in there.
Powder Keg Pub
Dungeness Crab Roll โ $26.95
Fresh oysters, cooked oysters, homemade clam chowder, salads, sandwiches, fish 'n chips, ribeye steak, and seafood specials โ with certain vegetables organic and fresh from a local community garden. If rugby is on the telly, you can watch it here. Fun, low-key, and popular with locals for Sunday brunch.
Lamb Shanks with Polenta โ $28.95
Fridays only โ or check the chalkboard for seasonal specials. Lamb shanks. Polenta. Fridays only. THAT IS THE CORRECT ANSWER. A kitchen confident enough to run a chalkboard special knows exactly what it's doing. No frozen nonsense. Just a chef who shows up on Friday and cooks something worth driving for. Billy Ray Ramsey respects that kitchen.
Pan-Seared Halibut โ $42
Baja mango salsa, creamy crab risotto, seasonal vegetables. Mango salsa on halibut โ risky. Crab risotto underneath โ bold. Billy Ray Ramsey does not recommend timid cooking. THIS is not timid cooking. This is confidence on a plate. Whoever is running that kitchen understands something most people don't. Get in there before they raise the price.
Breaded Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp, or Calamari โ $13.50
Your choice, with five sides and cocktail sauce. THIRTEEN FIFTY. Pick your protein, pick your sides, and get out of your own way. Billy Ray Ramsey appreciates a kitchen that doesn't overthink it. Sometimes a perfectly fried shrimp is all a man needs. This is that place. Don't complicate it.
Holy Guacamole Sampler โ $20.10
Quesadilla, nachos, chimichanguitas, hot wings, AND jalapeรฑo poppers โ plenty to share. PLENTY. Billy Ray Ramsey recommends a pitcher of strawberry margaritas alongside. His doctor says watch the salt. Billy Ray told him he's watching it โ watching it go straight into the guacamole. No regrets. None.
Hold'em, $5 Blackjack, 3 Card Poker โ Daily, 7 Days a Week
Twenty-two HDTVs, Hot Spot Lottery, scratchers, shuffleboard, pool, and a digital jukebox. Billy Ray Ramsey has spent twenty years in hot kitchens. He has earned a seat at a cool table. This is that table. Come play. And gamble responsibly โ the Angry Chef has watched enough people bet on bad hands to know the difference between a good risk and a stupid one.
