Event Info from W&M
Join us virtually for our fourth W&M Writers of Washington event with Brian J. Morra ’78, author of the recently released book “The Able Archers”—a historical thriller based on real events. Morra has been interviewed by CBS News Radio about this book, and W&M Chancellor Robert Gates ’65, L.H.D. ’98 (CIA deputy director for intelligence from 1982-86, director of central intelligence from 1991-93 and secretary of defense from 2006-11) shared that, “while a gripping work of fiction, ‘The Able Archers’ is a powerful reminder of the value of human judgment—and the continuing peril posed by nuclear-armed powers.”
The discussion will focus on the history of the Cold War period depicted in the book and connections that can be drawn to the present-day Russian invasion of Ukraine, especially what it means for the potential of nuclear war. The conversation will be moderated by William and Mary professor Ryan A. Musto, director of forums and research initiatives at William & Mary’s Global Research Institute.
This event is produced in partnership with the W&M Washington Center, William & Mary Alumni Association and the Association of 1775.
