New research project on Precarity, Migration and Agency: Women Construction Workers in Nepal. Feyzi Ismail (SOAS, University of London), Kalpana Wilson (Birkbeck College, University of London), and Sambriddhi Kharel and Swechchha Dahal (Nepal) are embarking on the research project supported by Global Challenges Research Fund (Birkbeck QR Grant). This project is about the gendered working conditions experienced by women construction workers in Nepal and existing and potential strategies for transforming these conditions. It focuses on the impact of the government's post-earthquake Mason Training Schemes aimed at women, trade union interventions, and women workers’ informal collective strategies in negotiating with contractors and employers. For more information, contact Feyzi Ismail at fi2@soas.ac.uk
Sohan Prasad Sha was awarded a PhD degree by Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. His dissertation, 'Towards National Innovation System (NIS) in Nepal: Role of Actors and Institutions in Building Science, Technology and Innovation', attempts to understand the aspects of NIS in Nepal engaging with the ideas of neo-Schumpeterian scholars. Major actors (scientific community, public research organization, universities, and enterprises) were identified to explore transitions towards ‘innovation system' by selectively drawing from the experiences and lessons of other nations (particularly South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Sri Lanka).
