Webcourse Gradebook

The college of sciences would like to remind everyone about a nuance of the Webcourses gradebook and a tutorial recommended by CDL (Center for Distributed Learning) to hide a total grade calculation (the totals column) in the Canvas Gradebook. They have found that students sometimes only refer to what is in Webcoures for their calculated final grades (opposed to asking your or referring to your syllabus), and you may not be able to set-up Canvas to show or calculate exactly like your syllabus (syllabus takes precedence!). Take a look at your syllabus and Gradebook, and if you are unable to align Webcourses with what’s in your syllabus, it may be better to just hide the “totals” column in the Canvas Gradebook.

To post individual assignment grades but prevent any calculation of the final grade, please see the following Canvas help guide:

If this doesn’t work for your course or you have questions, please work directly with your CDL Webcourse designer/resource to help you use the Gradebook to your advantage (opposed to having it work against your intended goals!). You can contact someone for assistance at: https://cdl.ucf.edu/support/ .

Cancellation of Fall 2020 Exchange Programs

The EiCRT (Emerging Issues and Crisis Response Team) decided that it would be a high risk for the University to allow its students to participate in exchange and partner programs through UCF for the Fall 2020 semester. Please see the verbiage below that they have asked was to send to the Fall 2020 students.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place or activity where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), senior citizens and individuals with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

UCF Abroad will not engage in any study abroad activities/trips, including exchange and partner programs, through the end of Fall 2020 for the health and well-being of our students.

By engaging in exchange and partner programs outside of UCF you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

In reference to the Spring 2021 and Summer 2021, please see the response below:

UCF Abroad can facilitate such exchange and partnership programs for Spring 2021 and Summer 2021; however, students should be made aware that these and other study abroad activities are pending the status of global health conditions.

If you or any of your students have questions, please contact Ms. Daren Caine or the UCF Abroad office.
