THEATRE | JOIN THE SEARCH PARTY
|
|
|
|
Award-winning poet and playwright Inua Ellams has brought his chaotic, audience-led poetry event to Tobacco Factory Theatres. Our editor Rosanna Spence went along to its opening night... |
|
When I heard that Ellams was bringing a one-man-and-his-electronic-tablet event to Tobacco Factory Theatres, with the entire concept being that audiences shout out random words for him to search the digital archives of almost everything he’s ever written, even if it’s not finished… my curiosity piqued.
Search Party smiles knowingly at the world’s chaos, and chooses to harness that energy and consciously co-create with its community instead. Ellams' gentle ease from the very first moment meant the next 60 minutes became the warm blanket of a conversation between new friends that are sure they’ve met before in another lifetime, rather than a poetry reading balancing on anarchic architecture.
You could take part every night of its run and have a completely different experience each time. No two events will ever be the same. And I’d join the party again, again and again just to see where in his mind the next ride ends up.
Read the full review on our website, and you can also still grab tickets for tonight and tomorrow’s events (13-14 September) at Tobacco Factory Theatres.

Chicken, Chorizo and Butternut Squash Hash
Recipe by Melissa Blease
The leaves are falling from the trees, there's a distinct crispness in the air and we all need something comforting for supper...
Ingredients (serves 4)
150g cooking chorizo, chopped into chunky dice 330g skinless chicken breasts, sliced 1 onion, peeled and diced 600g butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and diced 1tsp smoked paprika 300g ripe tomatoes, chopped 4 eggs
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200c/gas mark 6 and heat a wide, high-sided, ovenproof pan.
2. Sauté the chorizo for 3-4 minutes or until just starting to caramelise and release oil, then transfer to a bowl with a slotted spoon. Add a little more oil to the pan if necessary, then sauté the chicken for 4-5 minutes until golden all over. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside with the chorizo.
3. Sauté the onion in the hot pan for 3-4 minutes or until translucent. Add the butternut squash and continue to sauté for 10-12 minutes until the squash is soft and golden, adding a splash of water if the pan starts to dry out. Add the chorizo and the chicken back to the pan with the paprika, stir well, then add the chopped tomatoes and stir again. Bring to a gentle simmer then transfer to the hot oven (uncovered) for 12-15 minutes. Just before the hash has finished cooking through and thickening up, poach the eggs.
4. Serve the hash in warm bowls topped with a poached egg for each person and, perhaps, dotted with Tabasco sauce.

Spanish white wines from The Great Wine Co.
Spain has the greatest area under vine of any wine producing country. Due to its arid climate and low rainfall, the land simply cannot support such a concentrated volume of trellised vines as you might find in a country like France. Spain's vineyards are therefore dotted with low-lying, ancient bush vines better adapted to compete for the scarce resources. The diversity of wine styles is immense.

TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre Heuer 02 Special Edition Gulf.
Featuring the iconic Gulf blue and orange stripes, the TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf pays homage to the watchmaker's rich heritage, and their association with Gulf.
The Gulf racing colours, pale blue and orange, became renowned after appearing in the 1971 Steve McQueen film Le Mans, in which McQueen's character Michael Delaney drives for the Gulf team. In the film, he famously wears a TAG Heuer Monaco wristwatch and from this point on the connection between TAG Heuer, Gulf, and the late Steve McQueen was immortalised in history.
Like the original, a domed, bevelled sapphire crystal protects the 39mm steel case with its blue sunray brushed square dial. The dial features two square sub-dials for timing seconds and minutes and there's a subtle 'Gulf' logo seated just above the 6 o'clock date aperture. The perforated leather strap- like a driver glove, is a darker navy blue, with intricate details and a racy orange lining.
On the circular crystal case back the automatic Calibre Heuer 02 movement is visible - beating to 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring a smooth sweep hand as well as ultimate precision.
The TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf is certainly a very collectable and iconic piece and will appeal to any true motor racing fan. Steve McQueen would approve. | £7,000

NOMAS is an Athens-based travel, photography and fashion magazine that explores a different destination with every issue – ‘a journey on paper’. It takes its name from the Greek word for nomad and seeks ‘to find common ground for photographers, artists, writers and creative wanderers who share the same passion for experiencing and documenting travel narratives about the unseen and the untold’. The latest issue – a delicate affair printed almost solely in monochrome – pushes out to Japan, to explore haikus, prefectures, shrines, sumo, ancient rituals (including tea ceremonies), ghost stories and textiles, which includes a look at the work of Trim Nakazato, Jun Takahashi and Yohji Yamamoto. | £18

Dawn Sidoli – A Celebration at Lime Tree Gallery 12 September until 11 October
Dawn painted for the love of it, right into later life, so she left a wide variety of top-quality work, some of which had been shown at the Royal Academy, The NEAC or the RWA, but much of which had never been exhibited commercially. The paintings are those of a natural talent, who has been able to accommodate a formal training into her work, without compromising a freshness of approach and a lively imagination.
Together with her family, Lime Tree has selected a representative cross section of her work from the 1970s through to this century. Dawn was a brilliant painter of people, but was probably known more for her landscapes, and especially for her still life work. Most of the paintings in this exhibition are for sale and present a terrific opportunity to add a piece or two by one of the finest West Country painters of the last several decades to your collection.

Located on a sought-after road in West Bishopston between the popular Gloucester Road and Whiteladies Road, this is a large, well laid out and versatile family home with an unusually generous plot - and is being sold with a complete chain.
Internally, a central hallway opens to the right into the first of two principal receptions. This room has a bay window, feature fireplace and stripped wooden floorboards. A 2nd reception sits directly behind and has a wood-burning stove and again a bay window. This time giving access via a glazed set of French doors to the rear garden.
