Guyana Politics: The PPP/C has released their list of 33 MPs for the new Parliament

The PPP/C today released their list of 33 MPs for the new Parliament.

A statement from the PPP/C follows:

The People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) on August 19, 2020 submitted to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) names of candidates, extracted from its List of Candidates, to be Members of the National Assembly, as well as its lists of names of candidates extracted to be members of the ten (10) Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs).

The thirty -three (33) Members of Parliament include twelve (12) from the Geographic List and twenty-one (21) from the National Top Up List.    Continue reading →

MEDICAL: President Ali announces US$60m response to COVID-19

With the number of COVID-19  cases rising  in the country and five persons dying from the disease in the last four days, President Irfaan Ali on Wednesday August 19, announced a number of measures his Government is taking to tackle the pandemic which includes the sourcing of some US$60M to assist in its efforts.

The monies will be sourced from the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank. Another US$2M has also been sourced from the Government of India.    Continue reading →

With many international air carriers still not back in operation, the new government through the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is currently engaged in reviewing applications for limited inbound and outbound flights out of Guyana.

Minister of Public Works Mr. Juan Edghill said Tuesday during a press conference that flights have been approved for the months of September and October, 2020 by Eastern Airlines. The GCAA will publish the dates where all interested parties could be made aware of the flights from New York and Miami.  Continue reading →
