June statistics: monthly passenger traffic record improved again at Lithuanian airports

Lithuanian Airports' June statistics show that the three airports handled a total of 653,000 passengers, which is 15% more than the same month in 2023. 

At the same time, this is the second month in a row that the record for passengers handled in a month has been improved, the first record having been set in May, when the result was also the highest in the LTOU network and the highest among all Baltic airports.

The total number of passengers on the LTOU network this June is 8% higher than in 2019, when 604.5 thousand passengers were recorded in the same month.

Lithuanian Airports Network Marks 10th Anniversary

On 1 July this year, Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) celebrates a milestone - the 10th anniversary of the merger of Vilnius (VNO), Kaunas (KUN) and Palanga (PLQ) airports into one efficient network. 

According to aviation experts, this decision allowed the organisation to survive the crisis that shook the aviation sector, to recover and to show growth trends, gradually becoming a regional leader.

Since 2014, all three Lithuanian air gateways have recorded significant growth in many areas of activity. One of the key ones is the number of passengers, which has grown from 4.4 million in 2014 to more than 6 million in 2023, with a record 6.5 million passengers in 2019 (before the pandemic).

Preparations Underway for New Arrivals Terminal at Vilnius Airport

Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) and the Lithuanian Architects' Union have signed a contract for the organisation of an architectural ideas competition. 

LTOU, together with national experts, aims to select and then implement the best ideas from local or international architects for the new arrivals terminal and its adjacent areas to be built by the end of this year or early next year.

Lithuanian Airports are looking for a duty-free shop operator

Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) is launching an international lease tender to select a duty-free shop operator for Vilnius and Kaunas airports. 

The selected partner is expected to start operations at Vilnius and Kaunas airports in 2025. LTOU representatives say that the tender is expected to attract the attention of international market players and applications are expected by the second half of September.

Strategic infrastructure development projects are currently underway at both Vilnius and Kaunas airports: a new departures terminal is being built in Vilnius, the passenger terminal is being reconstructed in Kaunas.

It is estimated that by 2025, these passenger terminal expansion projects will enable Lithuanian airports to handle a 10 million passengers per year.

Valdas Stropus, the new Chief Operations Officer, has joined the top management team of Lithuanian Airports. 

A specialist who has worked in various positions related to aviation and airport processes for almost 20 years, he has spent the last 9 years as the Head of Safety and Compliance at Lithuanian Airports.

Vilnius Airport Engages in BSR HyAirport Project Exploring Hydrogen Applications in Aviation

Vilnius Airport will officially start participating in a project to find innovative hydrogen solutions for aviation. 

The BSR HyAirport project aims to find concrete solutions to adapt airport infrastructure to hydrogen-powered aircraft in the future, to prepare airports to store, recycle and supply green hydrogen as a future energy source for aviation.

The project will create a unique platform to co-develop, implement and test practical solutions to address common challenges and specific needs of hydrogen-powered aviation.
