May 20th also marks my dad's birthday.
He would have been 94 years young.
When dad was fresh out the Army back in 1948 after spending two years in the 6th Airborne Division as Motor Cycle Dispatch Rider in Palestine, he was eager to earn money.
He rounded up spent ammo in a wheelbarrow which he'd 'weigh in' for cash at a local scrap yard. I'm absolutely positive this was the start of dad's large scrap business he ran for the following thirty years before moving our family from the UK to the USA.
He wrote a book on recycling scrap metal and it still sells to this very day! Take a look at my dad's A Fortune in Scrap over on my website (or check it out on Amazon HERE.)
