Workshop and Training Energy Efficiency: A Key Driver for Clean Energy Transition" focus on "Energy Efficiency and Cooling Technologies", 2-3 October 2017, Kuwait

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network announces the organisation of the two-day event "Energy Efficiency: A Key Driver for Clean Energy Transition" which will focus on Energy Efficiency and Cooling Technologies and will take place in Kuwait, on 2 and 3 October 2017. The event is under the Patronage of the Minister of the Oil and the Minister of the Electricity and Water, Mr. Essam Al Marzooq, and is organised by the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Networkin partnership with the Kuwait Society of Engineers and the Public Authority of Applied Education and Training. The event will be held at the Kuwait Society of Engineers premises in Kuwait City.

The aim of the event is to foster partnerships by bringing together high-level stakeholders from the EU (European Union) and the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) to discuss Energy Efficiency and Cooling Technologies suitable for the region, exchange best practices and lesson learned and advance collaboration between EU and GCC actors.

Interested experts can apply for attendance through the event's website. The application platform will stay open until September 21st, 2017. In view of capacity limitations for the event’s sessions, all applications will be reviewed by the organisers and participation will be confirmed by the event secretariat. Information on the agenda and other organizational details will be made available soon through the event's website.

The Network exhibiting and offering visibility for its members at the Dubai Solar Show and WETEX, 23 – 25 October 2017, Dubai, UAE

The Network will have a strong presence at the Dubai Solar Show, part of WETEX taking place on 23-25 October in Dubai. The Network will host its own exhibition area at a prominent pace within the show and invites its members to apply their interest in promoting their services and offering under the umbrella of the Network. You may send apply until Thursday 31 August 2017 by sending an e-mail to Ms Alice Corovessi (a.corovessi@eugcc-cleanergy.net). You may find more information at the Network website here.
The Dubai Solar Show is an important B2B platform for the public & private sectors to make deals, build partnerships, review the latest solar-energy technologies, and learn about current and future projects in the region opportunities to take part in solar-energy projects and programmes. 
Moreover, the Network in cooperation with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), are organising a series of workshops and seminars focused on the solar industry.

The Network partnering in events 

Annual Gulf Research Meeting, Workshop on "Smart Cities in the Gulf: Current State, Opportunities, and Challenges", 1-4 August 2017, Cambridge UK

The Network will participate and contribute at the Gulf Research Meeting taking place in Cambridge UK on 1-4 August. Of particular interest for the Network is the workshop, Smart Cities in the Gulf: Current State, Opportunities, and Challenge. The goal of this workshop is to explore the current state, opportunities, and challenges related to Smart Cities in the GCC. Scholars and decision makers will discuss current challenges and practices adopted in Gulf cities. Promising and novel implementations of Smart City concepts will be mapped and assessed.The exchange of knowledge during the workshop will aim to bridge the current gap between different stakeholders such as policy makers, researchers and innovators, and private sector entities.

Dr. Haris Doukas, Network’s Research Collaboration Specialist is an invited delegate and he will present the “Intelligent Energy Management within the Smart Cities: An EU-GCC Cooperation Opportunity”.

The Network supports InterSolar Middle East 2017 as Partner, 26-27 September 2017, Dubai UAE

The Network is partnering with Intersolar Middle East 2017  taking place in Dubai on September 26-27, 2017. This powerful solar conference will focus on PV Power Plants, Best Practices, Financing, and Business Models, the latest PV technologies, and O&M, with a variety of networking opportunities offering plenty of space for a lively exchange of ideas.

The Network is organising a session within the Intersolar 2017 Conference Programme that will focus on the key enablers for an accelerated integration of renewable energy sources (RES) in the grid, suitable for the Middle East region.

8th Desert Energy Leadership Summit, in cooperation with Dii, GEIDCO, and  the Arab League, 13-14 November 2017, Dubai UAE

This year, the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network partners with Dii, GEIDCO and the League of Arab states for the co-hosting of the ‘8th Desert Energy Leadership Summit’ (DELS). The Summit will take place in Dubai on November 13th/14th, 2017.

We are planning a very exciting and interesting program for this year’s Summit, that will bring together global visionaries, regional and international industry leaders and political forces to present experiences and discuss the perspectives and practical implementations of the interconnected power systems from various regions in the transition toward sustainability.

The Network, supporting partner at the 7th Annual Smart Grids and Smart Meters Summit, 28-29 November 2017, Dubai, UAE 

The 7th edition of the Smart Grids and Smart Meters Summit will take place in Dubai, UAE on 28 and 29 November 2017. The Network is among the supporting partners of the event. Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert of the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is an invited speaker and will present “The role of smart grids and storage in integrating variable Renewable Energy sources.”

June 2017 Network Highlights

The Network at the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), and energy Days 

The Network, represented by Frank Wouters, Director, and Dr Ioanna Makarouni Communication Manager, participated in a number of interesting events within the EU Sustainable Energy Week, meeting and engaging with Network friends and stakeholders. Highlights include among others:

-Visualizing Energy 2017: The Energy Transition Leaders Forum: The Network was a knowledge partner at the Forum taking place on 22 June within the EU SEW conference programme. The Network Director Frank Wouters made a key note address on “Energy in Transition”, while the Network supported article “Using clean Cars as power plants” was featured at the revolve summer 2017 issue.
- Solar Power Europe Symposium and Networking Reception, taking place in Brussels on 21 June, featuring energy leaders (including Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission) coming together to discuss the incredible achievements of solar, and how solar is driving the digitalisation of the European energy transition.
- IRENA sessions within EUSEW on "REthinking Energy — innovation in renewable energy policy and regulation" (21 June) and on "EU’s renewable energy prospects for 2030" (22 June)

New Areas/services in the Network Website

EU-GCC Clean Energy Virtual Research Lab

The Network team has developed and launched the EU-GCC Clean Energy Virtual Research Lab. It is a virtual lab-space within the Network's website, where Network members, in particular participating and contributing EU and GCC research institutes and laboratories, are able to share their resources, knowledge, information and material.

EU-GCC Clean Energy e-Training Centre

The Network has recently launched the EU-GCC Clean Energy e-Training Centre hosted within the Network’s website, for providing a wide variety of training and capacity building services to the Network Members.
This e-Training Centre includes training material, case studies and other useful information presented by the Network and additional material that would be useful for capacity building. 

The resources are organized according to the relevance with the Network Working Areas, namely, Renewables, Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management, Clean Gas Technologies, Electricity Interconnections and Regional Market Integration, and Carbon Capture and Storage. Training material will be also provided for additional clean energy topics.
