From October 11-13, we welcomed more than 200 alumni back to West Lafayette to celebrate Purdue Crew's 75th and women's rowing's 50th anniversaries. We had an action-packed weekend, which saw nearly 80 alumni row on the water, the dedication of the Jerry Thomas and Arthur Euler rowing shells, two dinners, a Q&A with the current coaching staff, and speeches from Vice Provost for Student Life Beth McCuskey, former Head Coaches David Kucik and Kevin Sauer, one of the early members of the women's program Barb Sauer, and Olympic Champion Amanda Elmore.

The weekend was a fantastic celebration of how far Purdue Crew has come over the last three-quarters of a century, and a look ahead to the next 75 years. Thank you to all alumni, friends, and families who attended, and thank you to outgoing PRA president Ellen Shew Holland, whose leadership of the PRA over the past five years has been immense. We hope to see you back next year!

We are aiming to make a Henley trip a regular part of the experience we offer to our athletes, with the ability to go roughly once every four years, when we have crews with top-level speed. In order to support this initiative, along with other performance and competition related initiatives, we are aiming to grow our program endowments by $1 million over the next year. As we push into the next 75 years of Purdue Crew, and as more programs begin to adopt the club rowing model, we want to provide the top student-athlete experience in the country. The ability to represent the program internationally is an essential part of that.

We continue our goal of building the program's financial infrastructure and long-term health by pushing to support the team through our endowments. Currently, through the generous support of our alumni, family, and friends, our endowments support a variety of team needs, from coaching, to financial aid for athletes, to boat purchases. As we look ahead to the future, we want to continue to enhance the student-athlete experience and broaden what we can support with our endowments. 

The next phase of endowment growth will be focused on enhancing the performance of the team and sophistication of our training. There are two components to this: increasing the number of competitive racing opportunities - such as the aforementioned Henley initiative - such as telemetry systems (read about those here).
