Current management protocols for ACL tears have been shaped by the belief that the ACL has limited blood supply.  In this study, it was found that participants in the Cross Bracing Protocol (CBP) showed great results in healing at a 3-month MRI follow up. 

The CBP uses a brace which keeps the knee bent at 90 degrees immediately 4-weeks post injury to allow the ruptured ends of the ligament to heal.  The participants would gradually straighten their knee after this 4-week period. 

This is hopeful that such an intense surgery and rehabilitation following ACL repairs could be avoided in some cases.
