A creative journey to the Morocco desert.

ON A SENSORY JOURNEY:

DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE AND LIVING WITH ART

KALPA embarks on a new creative journey with Tacchini, since 1967 a reference in the Made in Italy furniture and design industry, towards an exotic and exclusive residence in the heart of Morocco, a short distance from Marrakech, where the colours of the desert are vivid, and the scenery is bright and powerful.

On the occasion of the Home Collection 2024 catalogue, Tacchini brings together their new design and furniture collection and a curated selection of artworks from KALPA. In accord with the overall setting, attention to the delicate equilibrium between man-made environments and nature, the choice of primary and ancient materials, and respect for the local culture and traditions, all resonate with Tacchini’s cutting-edge design and ethical philosophy.

Under the creative direction of Giusi Tacchini, the interiors of the villa become a constellation of unique objects aimed to create an eclectic and warm domestic environment, imbued with elements earthy and textural to stimulate the senses. In collaboration with KALPA, artworks by Yoshimi Futamura, Roberta Busato and Guillem Nadal have been selected and integrated to suffuse the spirit of the spaces with their conceptual and aesthetic content. These elements in complete accord with the earth-coloured textured walls emerge as accents of colour and form, to create a cohesive and contemporary narrative throughout the project.

"The house is a private moment, suspended between the distance of collective episodes, recalled by sounds coming from outside. With a warm and enveloping taste, the sun enters through small windows and pervades every place: even the most secret, that of the soul."

Like ancestral deities, Roberta Busato’s raw earth sculptures from her Meditation Heads series protect and energise the corners of the house where they are placed, enjoying the reflected sunlight entering the windows. Differing from the artist’s other head sculptures by their deep blue pigment, the series witnesses Busato’s journey towards becoming one with the universe while meditatively. As a collection of self-portraits beyond time and history, these are powerful and introspective human representations in unfired earth and straw where matter dominates, mirroring the authentic character of the villa's architecture, characterised by bold lines, and essential volumes in complete harmony with the natural surroundings.

Furthermore, the three selected luminous paintings by Mallorcan artist Guillem Nadal bring light into both the living and the night spaces, to enhance the delicate physicality of the walls and the curvilinear movement of Tacchini's design. Deeply connected with his homeland, Nadal's oeuvre is permeated with Nature’s life force, recalling the atmosphere, the contradictory personality and the landscape of its Mediterranean island. Playing with dichotomies, the displayed artworks compass a balanced tension between the calligraphic gesture of the artist, their texture, emptiness and fullness, additions and denials, fervor and silence.

Finally, Japan meets Morocco with Futamura’s geologically-inspired sculptures in stoneware and porcelain. According to the ceramist, there is no conceptual distinction between functional and non-functional art, as she believes that a bowl can be art infusing the place spiritually. In the presence of these works, everyday spaces become even more spaces of emotions, and moments of encounter with unique objects, each having its own identity and character. A place where the principles of authenticity, honesty and warmth lead.

"The fourth dimension of a place is in the spirit of living and of those who know how to observe. It pervades every environment and charges it with an exclusive and unrepeatable meaning."

Home is determined by the sentiment of the person who inhabits it, by everyday gestures and glances. Anchored to this principle, in the creation of a unique, thoughtful, living environment, the presence of art plays a leading and emotional role.
