Summer is here and let’s face it—we all need a vacation from the past year and a half! If you choose to travel and stay in a hotel, here are some ways to make your trip have less of an impact on the environment:
- When you leave the room, turn off the lights and air conditioning. Lighting in a hotel consumes about 25% of the electricity in a hotel, and heating and cooling consume almost 40% of the electricity in a hotel. When you leave the room, turn it all off and help the planet.
- Reuse your towels and sheets. Those clean, cozy sheets and those super soft towels are always a hotel perk, but hotel laundry uses up about 16% of their water usage. Not to mention the energy that is used to run the washing machines. Consider reusing your towels and your sheets during your stay.
- Leave the “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door and avoid having any cleaning resources spent on your room. If you can swing it, try to skip any housekeeping services to save even more energy and resources.
- Stay in a green hotel. Most hotels average about 68.6 lbs. of emissions per night. Green hotels average only 13 lbs. of emissions per night. So before booking, consider looking for a green hotel.
