CIE Statement regarding unrest at the U.S. Capitol
As the U.S. continues to experience challenging times both politically and socially, the Center for International Education (CIE) wants you to know that we and the Madison College community are here for you. One week ago, the sanctity of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. was violently breached. Madison College President, Dr. Jack Daniels III, spoke out to condemn the acts that took place there on January 6, 2021. We invite you to read his statement to students and commentary on social media.
CIE would like to extend our sentiments regarding this difficult and tragic time. The events that took place at the U.S. Capitol signify a deep history of bigotry, hate, and disregard for this nation’s foundation of democracy. These acts do not reflect our work to support international students or our mission to create a more globally diverse, inclusive, and welcoming world.
We understand that there may be some confusion and anxiety surrounding the breach of the U.S. Capitol. CIE’s International Student Services staff continues to be available to assist anyone who is seeking guidance, and we can help connect you to counseling and other support services during these troubling times.
