Highlands Happenings
This Sunday is Pentecost! Wear RED!
You won't want to miss the children's processional at the beginning. Plan on arriving a couple minutes early (...or on time rather than a couple minutes late).

We'll be gathering the kids in the foyer outside the sanctuary as people are coming in on Sunday. They'll be helping us celebrate at the beginning of worship by giving us a little glimpse of the holy chaos that erupted on Pentecost.

It was pretty wild. And it still is.

So you'll get to light something on fire during worship.

One way to think of Pentecost is as the Church's birthday. It's an annual celebration of the day God sent the Holy Spirit to form the Church (Acts 2.1-21).

Elderberries - Tuesday, June 11th, 12:30pm

Marsha and Robert Reynolds are hosting Elderberries this month and our gathering will be this next Tuesday in the fellowship hall at church! Enjoy an luncheon of summer time favorites and conversation. Although we no longer spend the summers playing hopscotch, climbing trees or heading off to camp; let’s have fun sharing our fond memories of pastimes or vacations of our youth. Bring a picture if you like. Friends and all guests are welcome Hope to see you then!

RSVP to the Reynolds home number if you have it. If you don't have their number but would like to come, email Pastor Asher (pastorasherocallaghan@gmail.com).

Elderberries is a group of our elder folks at church. There's no age cut-off, so if you'd like to come, please do! Elderberries meets the 2nd Tuesday of most months at 12:30pm at church for fellowship, lunch, and fun.

Fr. Richard Rohr - Group Conversation- Friday, June 14th, 5:30

We will be gathering at Martin & Wanda Brotherton's home for dinner and discussion of a couple talks given by Fr. Richard Rohr at our recent Synod Assembly. You can watch the first talk by clicking on the image above. Here is a link to his second. And here is his third.

As a tease, one of my favorite quotes from his talks was:

"If you don't transform your pain, you will transmit it."

If you're interested in coming email Pastor Asher at pastorasherocallaghan@gmail.com and he can give you the Brotherton's address and directions there if you need them.

This gathering is put together by Bookies. We are a group of folks from church who meet once a month at one another’s homes to discuss a book, play games, or watch a movie. All are welcome to come every month, every once in a while, or once in a blue moon.

It's our tradition here at Highlands to have a kid-centered worship every time there's a 5th Sunday in the month. On this Sunday in June, we will be talking about what baptism means for our lives. And then we'll be remembering and celebrating baptism by playing with water after worship outside on the church lawn.

Lunch will be provided for everyone! There will be grilled hot dogs, either veggie dogs or burgers, chips, and drinks.

We'll have a slip n' slide and a water game for younger kids too.

What to bring: Sunscreen, bathing suit or water-friendly clothes (you can wear these for worship). Spare change for our "Noisy Offering" - during the offering part of worship, the kids will walk around the sanctuary with big tin cans so that it'll make plenty of noise when you put in your change.

Sunday, July 14th, 10am, Pferdestellar Park

It is what it sounds like! We worship outside at the park and eat a picnic lunch together afterwards.

Sandwiches & fixins will be provided. Sign-up here to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share!

Bring along yard chairs or blankets to sit on (there's minimal seating at picnic tables there). Also bring frisbees, footballs, bocce ball, or any favorite yard games you'd like to play after worship!

Pferdestellar Park can be found between Wolff & Yates on 33rd.

Building Brick By Brick: Above & Beyond

So Far, We've Raised $4,234! Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, this includes $3,000 for our new baby grand piano. Thanks to everyone who has given so far!

We are still looking to raise the following:

+New Sanctuary Sound System: $14,212

+Renovation of Northwest Basement Bathroom (large one at the bottom of the stairs): $3,722

+Renovation of Northeast Basement Bathroom (smaller one around the corner from the stairs as you go towards the Fellowship Hall): $2,642

What's all this about?
Our "Walls of Giving" in the narthex have lots and lots of envelopes (bricks - designed by the Sunday School kids), each with a different amount of money on them and a sticker indicating which project the money will go towards.

This year, for "Above & Beyond" (giving that's in addition to any regular pledging to Highlands you may do) we're focusing on a couple projects that will help keep our facilities in good shape.

Giving is simple - Just pick a project that you'd like to give to, and take an envelope from the wall with that project's sticker. Fill the envelope with a check (write the project name on your check) or cash in the amount listed on the front. Put the envelope in an offering plate or the bin by the walls. And repeat as often as you're able!
